Mao Family Braised Pork
Named after Mao Zedong's favorite hometown dish, it is one of the most classic meat dishes in Hunan cuisine. It uses fine skin-on pork belly, cut into mahjong-tile-sized cubes. Zhangjiajie city area is close to the Tianmen Mountain cable car station and the railway station, suitable for the first and last nights. Wulingyuan Town is adjacent to the ticket entrance of the National Forest Park and is the most convenient accommodation base for visiting the Zhangjiajie scenic area, with complete dining and shopping facilities.
Fenghuang Ancient Town
Riverside inns along the Tuo River are the best choice. Opening the window reveals stilted houses and blue water, and the night view is enchanting. Attractions within the ancient town can be reached on foot, but it may be noisy at night during peak season. Those who prefer quiet can stay on the outskirts of the ancient town.
Changsha City Area
Wuyi Square/Taiping Old Street is the core area for food and nightlife, with convenient transportation and mature commercial districts. Yuelu District is close to Yuelu Mountain and the university town, with a young and artistic atmosphere. Areas around the high-speed railway station are suitable for transit overnight stays.
Yueyang City Area
Accommodation near Yueyang Tower is convenient for visiting Dongting Lake and Junshan Island, and lake views can be seen. There are abundant hotel choices in the city area, suitable as a transit stop on the route from Changsha to Zhangjiajie.

How to Get There
💡 Changsha Huanghua Airport is Hunan's largest international airport, with many direct domestic and international routes. Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport has direct flights from major domestic cities. The high-speed rail network is well developed. Changsha South Station connects to the whole country, and Zhangjiajie West Station has opened high-speed rail service. Tongren Fenghuang Airport is only a 30-minute drive from Fenghuang Ancient Town and is the most convenient aviation gateway to Fenghuang.

🚇 Metro: Changsha has a metro system (Lines 1-6), covering major scenic areas and transportation hubs; Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang have no metro.
🚌 Bus: The bus systems in each city are well developed. There are free shuttle buses within the Zhangjiajie scenic area, and there are scheduled buses from Wulingyuan to the various entrances of the Forest Park.
🚕 Taxi: Changsha's starting fare is 8 yuan. It is recommended to use Didi. Taxis in Zhangjiajie city area are convenient; for going to scenic areas, it is recommended to charter a car or join a carpool.
💡 There is currently no direct high-speed rail from Zhangjiajie to Fenghuang; the bus takes about 4 hours. The high-speed rail from Changsha to Zhangjiajie takes about 3 hours. The high-speed rail from Changsha to Yueyang takes about 30 minutes. Within Fenghuang Ancient Town, walking is sufficient, and motor vehicles are prohibited from entering the town. Language
Mandarin is commonly used, and locals also speak Hunan dialects (Xiang Chinese). Young people in Changsha can basically communicate in English without difficulty. Major scenic areas in Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang have English signs, but remote Miao villages may require translation software for assistance.
Safety
Public security is good, and the tourism environment is mature and safe. On mountain roads in Zhangjiajie, be careful of slippery surfaces and follow boardwalk safety regulations. In Fenghuang Ancient Town at night, keep your belongings secure. In summer, take precautions against heat, sunburn, and mosquitoes. In the mountainous areas of western Hunan, the temperature difference between day and night is relatively large, so bring a jacket.
