Saga-Zhongba-Mount Kailash-Baga (Tarchen)
In the morning, depart from Saga for the sacred mountain, the sacred lake, and the ghost lake. Along the way, you will view Lengbu Gangri Peak from afar, at an altitude of 7,095 meters. After passing through Zhongba, you will arrive in Paryang. First, visit 【Lake Manasarovar】, the freshwater lake with the greatest water transparency in China. In Tibetan, it means "invincible, victory." It is known as the "Sacred Lake," the "Holy Lake," and the "Mother of the World's Rivers." The lake water is emerald-clear, with a transparency of 14 meters. The lake has a mineralization degree of 400 mg/L and is a freshwater lake, containing trace elements such as boron, lithium, and fluorine. Every summer and autumn, Buddhists come here with their young and old to make pilgrimages, bathing and cleansing themselves in the "holy water" to "prolong life."
【Rakshastal】 means "the poisonous black lake." It is commonly called the Ghost Lake. Its scenery is equally beautiful, and its water is equally intoxicatingly blue, yet it has been labeled with the ominous name "Ghost Lake" and relegated to a separate category. In fact, the sacred lake and the ghost lake were originally one lake. Due to climate change, the lake shrank and the water level dropped, and only then were the two separated by a long, narrow hill. It is said that the bottoms of Lake Manasarovar and Rakshastal are connected: on one side is the freshwater sacred lake, and on the other is the saltwater ghost lake. The area between the two lakes is the only route in and out of Burang County. At noon, have lunch at a restaurant in Paryang. After lunch, pass through the Mayou Bridge Border Checkpoint to reach Tarchen, the small town at the sacred Mount Kailash.
In the evening, stay overnight in Tarchen Town at the foot of the sacred 【Mount Kailash】.
