First you will cross the [Gangbala Pass] at an altitude of 5,030 meters, which is also the best place to overlook Yamdrok Lake. Afterward you will go to visit the world's highest freshwater lake, Yamdrok Lake. [Yamdrok Lake], abbreviated as Yam Lake, means "Lake of the Swan" in Tibetan. At an altitude of 4,441 meters, it is one of Tibet's three holy lakes, and its beauty is unsurpassed in southern Tibet. The clear lake water, towering snow mountains, and washed-blue sky merge into one, and the picturesque scenery makes people linger. After visiting Yamdrok Lake, you will travel by vehicle through Nagarze to visit [Karola Glacier] at an altitude of more than 5,000 meters. Drive distance: 392KM Overnight altitude: 4,900 m Attractions along the way: Kongma Grassland, distant view of Qomoyongqing, Qilin Gorge, Dinggyê Wetland, Rimanag Snow Mountain, Lhotse Peak, Longren Mountain (East Face of Mount Everest), Rongbuk Monastery, Everest Base Camp After breakfast, you will set off from Shigatse for Everest Base Camp. Along the way, you will pass through the beautiful Kongma Grassland, then arrive at Gangba County, the land of sacred water, where you can gaze at one of China's most beautiful snow mountains, the 【Mother of Snow Mountains - Qomoyongqing】. Legend has it that it is the mother of the surrounding snow mountains, hence the name Mother of Snow Mountains. Afterwards, you will continue along Route 219, also known as the China-India-Nepal Border Highway, for another 45 kilometers, then arrive at the magical Qilin Gorge. 【Qilin Gorge】is a renowned canyon geological landscape set in a long, deep canyon, sunken hundreds of meters below the surface. Everest Base Camp-Shishapangma-Peiku Tso-Saga

Drive: 330KM Overnight altitude: 3700m Attractions along the way: Mount Everest, Gyawu La Pass, Shishapangma, Peiku Tso In the early morning, while the peaks are still sleeping in the dawn, you will travel through the towering, majestic, and endlessly winding Himalayas accompanied by the first rays of dawn rising over [Mount Everest]. In the desolation and silence, cross the 5200-meter [Gyawu La Pass], where you can see the spectacular sight of four snow mountains over 8000 meters lined up in a row. From left to right, these four snow mountains are: Makalu (8463m); Lhotse (8516m); Mount Everest (8848m); Cho Oyu (8201m). Saga-Zhongba-Mount Kailash-Tarchen

Drive: 498KM Overnight altitude: 4,000 meters Attractions along the way: Mount Kailash, Lake Manasarovar, Lake Rakshastal In the morning you will set off from Saga for the sacred mountain and holy lake. The first stop is the holy lake [Lake Manasarovar]. Lake Manasarovar has the reputation of "Mother of the World's Rivers" and is the place called "Jade Pool of the Western Heaven" by the Tang dynasty monk Xuanzang in the Great Tang Records on the Western Regions. It is also one of Tibet's famous three great holy lakes and, together with Mount Kailash, is known as the "Sacred Mountain and Holy Lake." Lake Manasarovar is also currently the lake with the highest measured transparency in China, with transparency reaching 14 meters, clear and limpid. The clear lake water reflects the blue sky, vast and open. The lakeshore is surrounded by the Namnani Snow Mountains, and the lake and mountain scenery is enchanting. Separated from the holy lake by a single embankment is the barren [Lake Rakshastal], known as the Ghost Lake. It is said that the bottoms of Lake Manasarovar and Lake Rakshastal are connected, with one side being the freshwater holy lake and the other being the saltwater ghost lake. The mysterious thing about the sacred mountain is that its sun-facing side, for some unknown reason, remains snow-covered year-round, white with snow; while the back side of the sacred mountain has no snow year-round, and even if covered by white snow, it melts as soon as the sun comes out, exactly opposite to the usual patterns of nature. Tarchen-Zanda-Guge Kingdom-Tholing Monastery-Shiquanhe

Driving distance: 233KM Overnight altitude: 3,700 m Attractions along the way: Mount Kailash, Guge Kingdom, Tholing Monastery, Shiquanhe In the morning, set off from Mount Kailash in the glow of the dawn, pass through the [Zanda Earth Forest] and head to Zanda to visit the [Guge Kingdom Ruins]. The road conditions are rather rough, with some sections under repair. After lunch in Zanda, head to the majestic Guge Royal Palace (Guge Kingdom). The Guge Kingdom Ruins are an ancient plateau city, located on a hill by the Xiangquan River in the Zhaburang area of Zanda, Ngari, covering about 180,000 square meters. The entire site consists of more than 300 houses and caves, 3 stupas (over 10 meters high), 4 temples, 2 halls, and 2 underground tunnels, divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, which were, in order, the royal palace, temples, and residences. After sightseeing, return to Zanda County town along the original route. Visit the [Tholing Monastery], which has a history of more than 900 years. The monastery blends Indian Kashmiri, Ladakhi, and Nepalese styles in both its architecture and Buddhist statues. After visiting Tholing Monastery, head to Shiquanhe for the overnight stay.

Shiquanhe-Pangong Tso-Doma

Drive distance: 290KM Overnight altitude: 4,255 m Attractions along the way: Rutog Rock Paintings, Pangong Lake, Bird Island After breakfast, you will set off from Shiquanhe, first crossing the 4,875-meter Lameila Pass, then arriving at Risong Township, where you can see the exquisite 【Rutog Rock Paintings】. The Rutog mountain murals are murals in the Rutog cave (cave name Dingqiong Lhakang), depicting a grand architectural complex, mainly palaces and the palace city. In the murals, mandalas (that is, sky burial platforms) are numerous, divided into Buddhist and Bon ones, along with various Buddha and figure images, as well as other ghostly and demonic images. Less than 20 kilometers out of Rutog County, you arrive at 【Pangong Lake】. Pangong Lake is an international lake, mostly located in Ali's Rutog County, with a small part in the Kashmir region. Pangong Lake has a peculiar feature: fresh in the east and salty in the west. Within China it is freshwater, with shady trees and roosting flocks of birds; in the Kashmir region it is saltwater, where fish do not grow. In addition, Pangong Lake is also the world's highest-altitude bird island, with about 20-plus species of birds, numbering up to tens of thousands at most. Doma - Jieshan Daban - Tianshuigou (Dead Man's Gulch) - Dahongliutan - Sanshiliyingfang

Drive: 460KM Overnight altitude: 3,720 m Attractions along the way: Hongtu Daban, the First Tibetan Village (Songxi Village), Jieshan Daban, Death Valley (Quanshui Lake), the Xinjiang-Tibet Border Archway, Dahongliutan, Kangxiwar Martyrs' Cemetery After breakfast, you will set off from Duoma, cross the 5,278-meter-high [Hongtu Daban], and arrive at Songxi Village. [Songxi Village] is the last village on the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway on the Tibet side near Xinjiang. Then you will continue on, crossing the 5,248-meter-high [Jieshan Daban]. Jieshan Daban is the highest point of the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway and the highest stretch of highway in the world. The boundary between Xinjiang and Tibet is defined by it. This high mountain separates two ethnic groups: to the north are the Uyghurs, who believe in Islam, and to the south are the Tibetans, who believe in Buddhism. Once we cross here, we can appreciate another culture. The stretch of road from Jieshan Daban to Dahongliutan is the legendary "Death Valley" section. According to local legend, in 1957, a company of the PLA advance force entering Tibet from Xinjiang was wiped out overnight at [Tianshuigou] due to altitude sickness, and from then on this place, which made people pale at the mere mention of it, gradually came to be called "Death Valley." But the scenery along the way is truly spectacular, with a kind of serene beauty. After leaving [Dahongliutan], you will pass by the [Kangxiwar Martyrs' Cemetery], the highest-altitude martyrs' cemetery, where more than 100 heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the 1962 Sino-Indian border counterattack are buried. After that, you will continue on to Sanshiyingfang. This section of the route is the most precipitous and complex, with snow and wind all year round. In the evening, you will stay overnight at Sanshiyingfang.

Sanshiliyingfang - Yecheng - Zepu - Shache - Yingjisha - Kashgar

Drive: 589KM Overnight altitude: 1,264 meters Attractions along the way: Heiqia Daban, Mazar Daban, Kudi Daban, K2, Karakoram Mountains, Yecheng, Yecheng County Xitiya Lost City Scenic Area, Kashgar Old City In the morning, set off from Sanshiliyingfang, passing in turn Heiqia Daban, Mazar Daban, and Kudi Daban. These three passes are representative works of Route 219. [Heiqia Daban] is at an altitude of 4,906 meters. Heiqia means a mountain even monkeys cannot climb. The road condition is gravel surface, with sharp bends and steep slopes. [Mazar Daban] is at an altitude of 4,969 meters. Mazar means the tomb of the dead. The downhill section is nearly 40 kilometers, with high altitude, steep slopes, and sharp bends, making altitude sickness likely. Many vehicles have brake failure here and fall into the cliffs. Here you can also view from afar the world's second-highest peak at 8,611 meters—[K2]. [Kudi Daban] is at an altitude of 3,150 meters and is the most precipitous pass on Route 219, with altitude rising sharply by 2,000 meters. Afterward, arrive in Yecheng. [Yecheng] is a small border town in Xinjiang with rich ethnic minority customs. After that, you will continue onward, passing through Zepu, Shache, and Yingjisha to Kashgar. [Kashgar] is a city at China's westernmost end, looking east to the Tarim Basin and leaning west against the Pamir Plateau. As early as more than 2,100 years ago, this was the meeting point at the western end of the southern and northern routes of the Chinese section of the Silk Road, and a transportation hub and gateway for China's economic and cultural exchanges with the West. "If you haven't been to Kashgar, you haven't been to Xinjiang." Kashgar Old City is one of Xinjiang's most attractive tourism resources and also Xinjiang's most representative historical and cultural landscape. Tashkurgan - Internet-famous Road (Waqia Highway) - Khunjerab Pass - Kashgar

Drive distance: 416KM Overnight altitude: 1,264 m Attractions along the way: Waqia Highway, Khunjerab Pass, Pamir Plateau After breakfast, you will first take a vehicle to the internet-famous check-in spot 【Waqia Highway】. Waqia Highway is also called Panlong Ancient Road, named for its shape resembling a giant black dragon. This highway has more than 600 bends, hence the beautiful wish: "Today you have walked all the winding roads of life, and from now on life is all smooth sailing." Then you will pass through the beautiful Tashkurgan Grassland and Tashkurgan River Valley, where the valley is broad, with crisscrossing channels, swaying willows, and widespread marshes, meadows, and pastures. Herders' tents and flocks of cattle and sheep dot the landscape, and together with the surrounding snow-capped mountains, it truly gives the feeling that "the scenery here is infinitely good."
