First Look at Huangshan | 4-Day 3-Night Classic Group Tour of Huangshan + Hongcun + Tunxi Old Street

Welcome to Huangshan City, named after Mount Huangshan. Our driver will greet you at the exit of the airport/train station and take you to the hotel to check in and rest. After that, you are free to arrange your time as you wish—relax at the hotel to recover from your journey, or take a stroll around the neighborhood. Suggested ways to arrive 1. By plane: Huangshan Tunxi International Airport has many direct domestic routes, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guilin, etc., making transportation extremely convenient. 2. By train: You can take the high-speed rail to Huangshan City from cities such as Shanghai (2.5-3.5h), Hangzhou (1.5~2h), Suzhou (2~3.5h), Beijing (5.5~7h), and Guangzhou (7h).

After breakfast, drive about 80 kilometers, taking about 1.5 hours, to visit Huangshan, known as the most wonderful mountain under heaven. [Huangshan] is famous worldwide for its strangely shaped pines, grotesque rocks, sea of clouds, hot springs, and winter snow, and it is even praised with the saying, "Having returned from the Five Great Mountains, one need not look at other mountains; having returned from Huangshan, one need not look at the Five Great Mountains." Its gorgeous, majestic, and ever-changing scenery can be called the essence of the Five Great Mountains, and it occupies the most exalted position among China's famous mountains. After arriving at the foot of Huangshan, transfer to the scenic area shuttle bus to Yungu Temple and take the cable car to the Beihai Scenic Area to enjoy the majestic mountains, strange pines, and magnificent mountain scenery. First, walk to Shixin Peak (elevation 1683m) to feel the steepness of Huangshan and admire many famous Huangshan pines, such as the Harp Pine, Black Tiger Pine, Interlocking Pine, and Dragon Claw Pine. Then hike for about 40 minutes to Paiyun Pavilion to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Huangshan's West Sea Scenic Area. Looking out, you will see peaks like a forest of arrows, layer upon layer. Whenever mist and clouds linger, they appear and disappear, much like countless islands in the sea. Next, visit Flying Stone, one of Huangshan's famous landmark sights. Flying Stone is about 12 meters high and weighs 600 tons. Although its base has very little contact with the ground and it looks as if it might topple at any moment, it has always stood firm, which is truly miraculous. After the visit, walk to Guangming Peak, the second highest peak of Huangshan. Here the view is open and the light is abundant, and you can overlook the magnificent surrounding peaks. After sightseeing, take the cable car down the mountain and return to your hotel in Huangshan city to rest.

After breakfast, you will visit Hongcun, known as the most beautiful village in Chinese paintings. [Hongcun] was built during the Shaoxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty, with a history of about 900 years. It is an ancient village featuring Huizhou-style architecture, with over 140 well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty residences. Its lake and mountain scenery harmoniously coexists with layered courtyards, and its natural landscape and cultural heritage complement each other, making it a wonder of world historical and cultural heritage. Here, you can stroll along the village paths, visit attractions such as South Lake, South Lake Academy, Moon Pond, and Chengzhi Hall, and follow your guide's explanations to learn about Huizhou culture and Huizhou-style architecture. Then, continue to [Xidi Village] near Hongcun. Compared to Hongcun, Xidi has fewer tourists and is more tranquil, allowing you to experience a more authentic ancient village atmosphere. Xidi has a history of nearly a thousand years, with many well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty residences and ancestral halls. It is one of the main birthplaces of Huizhou culture, known as the "Museum of Ming and Qing Residences," and was once named one of the "Best Tourism Villages" in the world. The Huizhou-style architecture here is exquisite, with horse-head walls being a highlight. It also features many distinctive buildings, among which the Hu Wenguang Memorial Archway is one of the iconic structures of Xidi Village, standing 12.3 meters tall and entirely carved from the unique bluestone of Yixian County. It is not only the treasure of Xidi Village but also a masterpiece of Huizhou architectural art. The Hu Family Ancestral Hall, where the Hu clan of Xidi worshipped their ancestors, is grand and magnificent, with a rigorous and symmetrical layout and exquisite carving techniques. The Jing'ai Hall inside was originally the residence of Hu Shihong, the 14th-generation ancestor of the Xidi Hu family, and is now the best place to learn about Xidi's folk culture. As another iconic building of Xidi, Lingyun Pavilion has a simple and ancient overall design with powerful momentum. The pavilion features fine carvings and vivid colored paintings, offering plenty to see, and here you can also watch traditional performances such as Huangmei opera, throwing embroidered balls, and tea ceremonies. After the visit, return to Huangshan City and head to Tunxi Old Street. [Tunxi Old Street] is the most completely preserved ancient commercial street in China, featuring architectural styles of the Southern Song and Ming-Qing dynasties. Strolling along the flagstone paths of the old street, you can admire the traditional Huizhou ancient architectural style, browse the shops with strong local characteristics, and discover authentic local cuisine and snacks.
