Western Sichuan Mini Loop | 6-Day Highlights Tour of Chengdu - Mount Siguniang - Danba - Tagong - Xinduqiao - Zheduo Mountain - Kangding

Welcome to Chengdu, the hometown of the giant panda. Our driver will pick you up at your hotel and take you on a wonderful journey through western Sichuan. Departing from Chengdu for Mount Siguniang, along the way you will have the chance to observe adorable giant pandas living in the wild at the Wolong Panda Base and learn about their habits and ecological environment. After encountering the charming national treasure, the giant panda, you will cross the Balang Mountain Pass at an altitude of about 4,523 meters and take in the breathtaking wonder of a sea of clouds. The scenery along the way is beautiful, and you can enjoy stunning natural views. There will also be a brief stop at the Cat's Nose Ridge viewing platform, where you can photograph a spectacular panorama of Mount Siguniang. If the weather permits, you can clearly see the four majestic peaks in the distance, making the viewing experience even better. Finally, after arriving at Siguniangshan Town at an altitude of about 3,160 meters, check in at your hotel and rest.

After breakfast, head to Changping Valley (altitude about 3,300–3,700 meters), one of China's top 10 classic hiking routes. It is one of the "three valleys" of the Mount Siguniang scenic area, with a total length of about 29 kilometers, and has dedicated sightseeing buses, hiking trails, boardwalks and horseback riding routes, offering you an excellent sightseeing experience and letting you enjoy the essence of Mount Siguniang's pristine ecology and ethnic customs. Recommended hiking route for today: take the sightseeing bus at the Changping Valley entrance → Lama Temple (starting point of the hike, ruins of a Tibetan-style temple, a classic spot for photos with snow mountains in the frame) → Tang Cypress Ancient Road (a boardwalk section through primeval forest, famous for its ancient cypress groves and a relic of the Tea Horse Road) → Withered Tree Beach (calcified dead trees and stream scenery, especially unique in winter snow, connecting to attractions such as Chongchongjiao Waterfall and Sea Buckthorn Forest) → Lower Ganhaizi (now a mountaineering base camp and pasture for cattle and sheep, where you can enjoy reflections of snow mountains and alpine wetland scenery) → Upper Ganhaizi (remains of an alpine meadow lake, along the way you can view the granite cone-shaped massif of Mount Pomiu up close) → Red Stone Beach (unique crimson granite formations, where you can photograph scenes of "red stones mirrored in snow" and "emerald water rushing over stones") → Muluozi (an excellent snow mountain viewing platform, facing Yaomei Peak directly and surrounded by Mount Pomiu and Camel Peak). The round trip takes about 6–8 hours. Finally, take the sightseeing bus out of the valley. Optional leisure tour of Mount Siguniang at your own expense If you want to admire Mount Siguniang's magnificent snow mountains and canyon scenery but do not want to do an in-depth hike, you can go to Shuangqiao Valley and take the sightseeing bus to easily explore Mount Siguniang's picturesque scenery. Shuangqiao Valley (altitude about 2,900–3,840 meters) is about 7 kilometers from Siguniangshan Town. It is the most fully developed valley in the Mount Siguniang scenic area with the most concentrated scenery, with a total length of about 40 kilometers. It is mainly known for natural landscapes such as snow mountain ranges, alpine lakes and primeval forests, and is hailed as the "visual calling card of Mount Siguniang". The entire route can be toured by sightseeing bus, making sightseeing very easy. Because its redwood forests, meadows and snow mountains resemble Switzerland, it is also called "China's little Switzerland" and is a paradise for photography enthusiasts. You can take the scenic area sightseeing bus directly to the Redwood Forest (altitude 3,840 meters), where the conifers turn golden in autumn and are covered in snow in winter, surrounded on three sides by pyramid-shaped snow peaks, forming a magnificent snow mountain and forest landscape. On the way back, the sightseeing bus will take you past Bukda Peak, named for its resemblance to the Potala Palace. At its foot are sacred prayer flags and a white stupa as well as charming flower meadows, very suitable for photographing Tibetan cultural scenes, snow mountain reflections and highway shots; the road itself and the shallows beside it are the best shooting locations. Along the way, you can get off at the sightseeing bus stops and hike to enjoy amazing natural scenery such as Nianyu Dam (a gentle drifting section in summer, turning into a blue ice riverbed after freezing in winter, with charming meadows along the riverbank), Sigunacuo (a lake reflecting snow mountains, with uniquely shaped dead trees, where you can capture magical light and shadow), and Bonsai Beach (composed of small lake groups and calcified shoals), immersing yourself in a natural painting woven from snow mountains, forests, meadows, streams and waterfalls. After the tour, return to Siguniangshan Town to rest.

In the morning, you will drive about 2.5 hours (about 105 kilometers) to Danba, known as the "Kingdom of a Thousand Watchtowers". Danba was once rated by Chinese National Geography as one of the "Six Most Beautiful Rural Ancient Towns in China". It is famous for the three-dimensional landscape formed by Jiarong Tibetan village watchtower clusters, seas of pear blossoms and pure white snow mountains, and is one of the destinations in western Sichuan not to be missed. Afterwards, you will stop at Zhonglu Tibetan Village. Zhonglu Tibetan Village is located in the northeast of Danba County, Garze Prefecture, Sichuan Province, backed by Mount Riba Long and facing the sacred Mount Murdo. In Tibetan, its name means "a place longed for by people and gods". Tibetan houses in red, white and black are scattered in a staggered layout, dotted with golden-roofed temples, forming a sharp contrast with the blue sky and green trees, rich in color yet harmonious and unified. In spring, Zhonglu Tibetan Village is like a fairyland, with thousand-year-old watchtowers and pear blossoms covering the mountains forming pastoral scenery like a hidden paradise, a paradise for photography enthusiasts. In autumn, the colorful forests are gorgeous, with golden fallen leaves and red-and-white Tibetan houses complementing each other; when sunlight falls, the fields seem gilded and the watchtowers appear even more imposing. In addition, Zhonglu Tibetan Village still retains its original ecological appearance. Here you can enjoy a quieter Tibetan atmosphere and admire the most pristine Tibetan landscape of western Sichuan. In the evening, check in and rest at Zhonglu Tibetan Village.

After breakfast, you will drive about 6 kilometers to Suopo Township in Danba, known as the "Hometown of a Thousand Watchtowers". This is the most concentrated cluster of ancient watchtowers in Danba and a living fossil of the thousand-year architectural art of the Jiarong Tibetans. Eighty-four ancient watchtowers are scattered among the valleys and cliffs of Suopo Township. Viewed from afar, they resemble a "code of the earth", forming a magnificent picture with Tibetan villages and green mountains. Among them, the pentagonal, octagonal and thirteen-sided watchtowers are especially unique and rarely seen in the world. It is said that the more corners a watchtower has, the higher the status of its owner. Then, as you continue onward, you will admire the towering and magnificent Yala Snow Mountain (altitude about 5,820 meters). It is one of the four great sacred mountains in the Tibetan region. Its pyramid-shaped summit is covered in snow year-round and shrouded in mist and clouds, very mysterious. Tibetans regard it as the incarnation of the "white yak of the East", and viewed from Tagong Grassland it resembles a lotus throne or a seated Buddha, leaving you immersed in the awe of this "Kham sacred mountain". Afterwards, head to Moshí Park in Bamei Town, Daofu County, Garze, Sichuan. Moshí Park is a famous world geological wonder and China's only plateau stone forest landscape, known by such accolades as "one of the eight beauties of Daofu", "China's geological Bermuda" and "the eighth beauty of China's most beautiful scenic highway". Here, you can look out over Moshí Park's gathering peaks, forests of towers and myriad scenes, like an elaborately crafted "giant bonsai" and a fantastical "alien planet"; stepping inside makes it even more unforgettable. Compared with other stone forests, Moshí Park also changes color: in spring and winter, the stone forest is light gray and blue; in summer and autumn it is bright blue; and in humid seasons the color can even turn dark black, so tourists also call it the color-changing stone forest. No matter which season you visit, you can photograph different rock landscapes. After the tour, drive about 40 minutes to Tagong to check in and rest.

After breakfast, head to Tagong Monastery, known as the "Millennium Holy Land of Kham." 【Tagong Monastery】is a famous monastery of the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism, known as the "Little Jokhang," with a history of over a thousand years. The serene Tagong Monastery appears even more resplendent against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and grasslands. You can step into the monastery to admire various thangka paintings, Tibetan reliefs, painted sculptures, and other works, and gain a deeper understanding of Tibetan Buddhist culture. Afterwards, take a leisurely stroll across the vast Tagong Grassland, enjoying the breathtaking scenery where green grass meets the sky, snow mountains reflect golden roofs, cattle and sheep dot the green carpet, and prayer flags chant sutras in harmony with the endless sky. 【Tagong Grassland】is the most famous grassland in Ganzi Prefecture, with flat terrain, lush water and grass, and herds of cattle and sheep. In the distance, the sacred Yala Snow Mountain (elevation about 5,820 meters) and the Muya Golden Pagoda form a beautiful plateau landscape. If you are interested, you can rent a horse to easily and joyfully explore the grassland scenery, feeling the freedom of galloping on horseback, or visit a local herder's home for a brief experience of pastoral life. Then, drive to the picturesque Xinduqiao. 【Xinduqiao】is a photography mecca on the western Sichuan plateau, famous for its magical light and shadow and the changing colors of the four seasons, and is hailed as a "photographer's paradise." The plateau light and cloud shadows interweave among meadows and streams, creating a dreamy world of light and shadow. In autumn, the golden poplars are the iconic landscape of Xinduqiao, together with exquisite Tibetan villages and the distant view of Gongga Snow Mountain... forming a magnificent natural painting. Next, arrive at the first high mountain on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway with an elevation above 4,000 meters - 【Zheduo Mountain】(elevation about 4,298 meters), known as the "First Pass of Kham." The scenery along the way is infinite, and at the pass viewpoint, you can enjoy natural landscapes such as colorful prayer flags, towering snow mountains, magnificent sea of clouds, and winding roads. Finally, you will arrive in Kangding and spend the night here. In your free time, you can leisurely stroll around the city and experience the Kham style.

This morning, you will drive about 30 km to visit Mugecuo, known as the "Little Jiuzhaigou." Mugecuo is one of the largest alpine lakes in northwestern Sichuan, famous for its natural wonders such as alpine lakes, snow-capped mountain reflections, rhododendron seas, and golden beaches, and is known as a "fairy pond on earth." In autumn, the red-leaf corridor blazes like fire, creating a striking contrast with the golden meadows of the fragrant grasslands, making it one of the most unmissable sights. You can tour by sightseeing bus and check in at highlights such as the Seven-Color Lake (its crescent-shaped surface refracts light into a gradient of red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and violet—like a jewel set among forests and meadows on clear days, and a misty ink-wash wonderland in rain and fog), the Rhododendron Gorge (an 8-km canyon with over 100 species of alpine rhododendrons, forming a pink-purple flower belt from April to June), and Mugecuo (commonly known as Wild Man Lake, whose lakeside Love Beach has rare natural golden sand in the Tibetan region; at sunset the lake and beach are gilded together, and the scenery is beautiful in all four seasons). After the tour, you will drive about 4 hours (about 280 km) back to Chengdu. Upon arrival, our driver will take you to the airport/train station or back to your hotel.
