The Humble Administrator's Garden was first built in the fourth year of the Zhengde reign of the Ming Dynasty (1509 AD) by Wang Xianchen, a censor who retired to Suzhou after being frustrated in officialdom, and took 16 years to complete. It is renowned for its exquisite layout, picturesque scenery, and beautifully unique architecture and carvings. It is mainly divided into three parts: the east, the middle, and the west. These rockeries are piled with Taihu stones, in myriad forms, like a group of lifelike stone lions playing among the mountains and forests, hence the name. The Lion Grove Garden was first built in the second year of the Zhizheng reign of the Yuan Dynasty (1342), older than the Humble Administrator's Garden. It was built by the disciples of Zen Master Tianru for him, mainly featuring rockery and stone stacking. Its rockeries are winding and complex, the most intricate and complex among classical Chinese gardens. In addition, there are several inscriptions and plaques by Emperor Qianlong in the garden. It was first built during the Yuanyou period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1086) and named after Zhou Digong donated land to build a temple. It is famous for its layout of "small bridges, flowing water, and households", profound historical and cultural heritage, elegant and graceful water town scenery, and simple Wu dialect folk customs. The ancient town fully preserves the architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasties and traditional water town lifestyle. It is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List and has been selected multiple times by international media as one of the "World's Most Beautiful Towns". Strolling through Zhouzhuang, you can admire the oldest bridge, Fu'an Bridge; the Twin Bridges (Shide Bridge and Yong'an Bridge), famous for Chen Yifei's painting "Memory of Hometown"; the Shen Hall with its seven-courtyard, five-gatehouse layout; and the Zhang Hall with its layout of "sedan chairs enter from the front door, boats pass through the house", immersing yourself in the beauty of a "dream water town". You can also boat on the river, with pleasant pingtan soft dialect in the breeze, the gentle and rhythmic sound of the oars, white-walled and black-tiled houses on both banks reflecting weeping willows, like a flowing ink painting, very graceful and touching. At night, light and shadow art blends with ancient buildings, dreamily beautiful.
