Chengdu to Guanghan Tour: Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding + Sanxingdui Museum
Welcome to Chengdu, the hometown of the giant panda. This morning, our guide will meet you in the hotel lobby and take you to start today's Chengdu panda and Sanxingdui tour.
First, you will drive about 17 kilometers to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, located in the northern suburbs of Chengdu, to see China's adorable national treasure, the giant panda, and learn about their habits and conservation. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, or Chengdu Panda Base for short, houses more than 100 giant pandas, making it the world's largest captive giant panda breeding base. Here, you can see giant pandas of different ages playing, eating, climbing hills, climbing trees, and sleeping in the park, and you can also follow your guide to visit the Chengdu Giant Panda Museum to learn more stories about pandas. If you visit in autumn, you may also have the chance to see adorable giant panda cubs in the Moon Nursery and Sun Nursery. Moreover, the famous Chinese panda star Huahua lives here. She is known for her cute appearance and unique personality and is called a "top female celebrity." In addition to giant pandas, you can also see red pandas (rarer than giant pandas), Baer's pochards, golden pheasants, Eurasian scops owls, and other rare animals at the Chengdu Panda Base. (Note: 1. Giant pandas prefer cool weather and are more active in the morning, so it is recommended to arrive early to see more natural panda behavior; 2. Admission to the Chengdu Giant Panda Museum is free, but advance reservation is required, and it is closed every Monday.)
After lunch, you will drive about 50 kilometers (about 1 hour) to visit the Sanxingdui Museum, known as "asleep for three thousand years, astonishing the world upon waking." Unearthed in 1929, Sanxingdui is the largest, longest-lasting, and culturally richest ancient state site discovered so far in southwestern China, and one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Here, you will see the majestic bronze standing figure, the exquisitely crafted bronze sacred tree, the paper-thin gold mask, the intricately decorated gold staff... and follow your guide through the dust of history to explore the ancient Shu civilization and unlock the mysterious stories behind these artifacts.
Best photo spots at Sanxingdui
1. Stand beside the bronze standing figure and shoot upward to capture the grandeur of the artifact.
2. Take a side shot from behind the gold mask display case for an excellent forced-perspective effect; or take a profile shot in front of the case for a very atmospheric image.
3. Shoot a full panorama of the bronze sacred tree from behind its glass display case, especially in the hall in front of the tree where the lighting is stunning and perfect for great photos.
4. Photograph a person looking at the artifact from the side of the bronze mask, or use light and shadow to create a beautiful silhouette effect.
5. Shoot from behind the glass display case of the bronze head statue, or take a side shot of a person interacting with the artifact.
6. The lawn outside the Sanxingdui Museum is suitable for artistic-style photos.
