Pickup at Lhasa Railway Station or Airport

Welcome to Lhasa, the holy city of the snowy plateau (elevation 3,650 meters). Our driver will meet you outside Lhasa Railway Station (Airport) and take you to the hotel for check-in. After checking in that day, it is recommended not to wash your hair or take a shower, reduce activity, slow everything down, and relax to adapt to the plateau environment as quickly as possible. Lhasa Railway Station is located in the suburbs of Lhasa, about 8 kilometers from the Potala Palace. Along the way, you will cross the Lhasa River, and you can enjoy the scenery on both banks from the vehicle. Lhasa Airport is located in Gonggar County, Shannan City, about 60 kilometers from downtown Lhasa. The drive takes about 1 hour, and along the way you can enjoy distinctive Tibetan villages and pastoral scenery.

Lhasa-Mila Mountain Tunnel-Sergyila Pass-Lulang-Nyingchi

Today you will set off from Lhasa to Nyingchi. Along the way you will pass through the [Mila Mountain Tunnel]. Mila Mountain is the boundary mountain between Lhasa and Nyingchi (Central Tibet and Eastern Tibet). The Mila Pass is 5,013 meters above sea level, where snow falls year-round. The Mila Mountain Tunnel running through this mountain began operation in 2019 and is the world's highest-altitude extra-long highway tunnel, as well as a beautiful scenic spot on the Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway. Afterwards you will cross the Sejila Pass at an altitude of 4,702 meters, where you can gaze at Namcha Barwa, the crown of China's ten most beautiful famous mountains, and also ring a bell to pray for blessings. Afterwards you will continue on and arrive at Lulang, where you can experience [Tibetan horseback riding and Gongbo whistling-arrow shooting]. Under blue skies and white clouds, with green grass like a carpet and wildflowers everywhere, horses play leisurely by the stream, and yaks sway their huge bodies as they keep company with the green grass. You can ride a fine plateau horse and gallop freely, or experience the Gongbo people's distinctive folk custom of shooting whistling arrows. Finally, you will return to Nyingchi, and for dinner experience Nyingchi's local specialty—Lulang stone pot chicken. Stone pot chicken is Lulang's signature and specialty dish, very famous. The stone pot used to cook Lulang stone pot chicken is carved by locals from a single block of stone. Stone pot chicken uses local free-range chicken, added with some Tibetan medicine and hand-shaped ginseng, and is extremely delicious.

Nyingchi-Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon-Yani Wetland Park-Nyingchi

Today you will explore the Nyingchi region. First, visit the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon. The 【Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon】is the deepest canyon on Earth, known as "humanity's last secret realm." You can follow the scenic area shuttle bus to visit the Daduka Ancient Castle ruins and marvel at the magical power of love at "Qingbi Shijian." Here you can close your eyes, join your palms, make a wish, or place a small mani stone to pray for your wishes. Or you can listen to the roaring symphony of the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon at the water platform, and view the magnificent scenery between the villages on both sides of the canyon from the viewing platform. Afterwards, you will visit the Yani Wetland Park. The 【Yani Wetland Park】(formerly the Benri Sacred Mountain Scenic Area) is a sacred mountain of Tibet's native Bon religion. This mountain is one of the important sacred mountains worshipped by Bon followers. They place all their hopes — for happiness in this life and liberation in the next — upon Mount Benri. To eliminate sins and various illnesses, they circumambulate the mountain on schedule every year. In addition, Yani Wetland Park is also the confluence of the Yarlung Tsangpo River and the Nyang River. The scenery here could only be created by nature's skillful hands: the elegant trickle of the Nyang River is carried by the surging Yarlung Tsangpo River into the Indian Ocean, and the boundary at the confluence is clearly visible. After the visit, you will return to Nyingchi.

Nyingchi-Kading Valley Waterfall-Kongpo Ethnic Village-Lhasa

Today you will drive from Nyingchi, heading north along the Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway, Tibet's "most beautiful heavenly road." Along the way, you will visit Kating Gully. 【Kating Gully】is an excellent scenic spot in Nyingchi's forest canyon. On both sides of the canyon, high mountains and steep cliffs rise in layered ridges, with fantastic peaks, strange rocks, and ancient towering trees. Wildflowers fill the valley with fragrance, and the natural oxygen bar has fresh air. A waterfall with a drop of more than 200 meters falls from the sky, very spectacular. On the cliffs, natural formations resemble a great Buddha, a goddess, Guanyin, a Dharma protector, Tathagata Buddha, a lama chanting sutras, a divine turtle calling to the sky, a divine eagle offering treasure, a butter lamp, and the Tibetan "Six-Syllable Mantra" Buddhist characters, among other wonders. The most magical of all is a great Buddha naturally formed in the waterfall water that appears and disappears—hence the name Kating Gully Heavenly Buddha Waterfall. After visiting Kating Gully, you will visit 【Gongbo Characteristic Village】. Tibetan-style villages are arranged in picturesque disorder, and Tibetan courtyards are filled with the fragrance of flowers. The village, together with the green mountains and clear waters, blue sky and white clouds, forms a delightful watercolor painting. Here you can listen to Tibetan family stories, enjoy Tibetan dance, view houses with distinctive Tibetan features, and experience the local customs. Afterwards, return to the "City of Sunlight," Lhasa.

Lhasa-Yarlung Tsangpo River Scenery-Yamdrok Lake-Holy Lake Photo Shoot-Lhasa

Today you will visit Yamdrok Lake, one of the three great sacred lakes of Tibet. On the way to Yamdrok Lake, you will cross the 4,600-meter-high Gambala Pass, where you can gaze at the Gambala Radar Station in the distance; this is also the best vantage point for viewing the panorama of Yamdrok Lake. Afterwards, continue onward to visit the world's highest freshwater lake — Yamdrok Lake. [Yamdrok Lake], or Yang Lake for short, means "Lake of the Swan" in Tibetan. At an elevation of 4,441 meters, its beauty surpasses all of southern Tibet. The crystal-clear water, towering snow mountains, and spotless blue sky merge into one, and the picturesque scenery makes one linger and forget to return. While enjoying the beautiful scenery of Yamdrok Lake, you can also experience a sacred-lake photo shoot, capturing the beauty and happiness of this moment and freezing exquisite instants, so that years later when you look back, happiness will still surge in your heart — this is the meaning of a photo shoot at Yamdrok Lake.

Lhasa-Potala Palace-Chakpori-Zongjok Lukhang-Barkhor Square-Jokhang Temple Square-Lhasa

Today you will tour within Lhasa and visit the [Potala Palace], the world's highest ancient palace-fortress architectural complex. Climb up along the long flights of stairs, overlooking Lhasa as you go, taking in the grandeur of the city at a glance. Take photos and rest along the way, then enter the Potala Palace to explore this mysterious ancient palace for which there are very few images online. Afterwards you can go to the kora circuit in [Zongjiao Lukang Park] to experience walking the kora. In Zongjiao Lukang Park, devout pilgrims can be seen everywhere, gently spinning their prayer wheels, sliding the shiny prayer beads in their hands, and murmuring prayers. You can also go to the [Chakpori Hill] viewing platform to photograph the Potala Palace. Chakpori Hill stands close to the Potala Palace and is the best angle for photographing it, especially at the mountainside; this is also the location depicted on the 50-yuan banknote. Afterwards you will visit the [Site of the Qing Dynasty Amban's Office]. The traditional Tibetan-style compound where the exhibition hall is located is called "Chongsaikang Zhakang," a three-story Tibetan-style building complex located on the north street of Barkhor Street in the ancient city of Lhasa, in the central area of Lhasa's old town, with a history of more than 300 years. The Qing government once established its first Amban office here, for the Amban to work and reside. Because the Amban could enjoy a close view of the bustling scene of Barkhor Street from the windows of the south building of the compound, this place was called "Chongsaikang," meaning "the house from which one can see the market." Afterwards you will come to Barkhor Square. [Barkhor Square] is the destination of pilgrimage for numerous devotees. For hundreds of years, pilgrims have come from far away, measuring the distance from their hometowns here with their bodies, prostrating once every three steps. Barkhor Square is filled with incense smoke all day long, and devout worshippers have left deep imprints of full-body prostrations. Regarding faith, this place will give you the most perfect explanation. If one day you lose yourself, please come sit and look around Barkhor Square; regarding faith, it will give you the answer... The temple on the square is the central temple of Tibetan Buddhism—Jokhang Temple (you may, according to your own circumstances, purchase a ticket to enter and visit at your own expense).

Lhasa-Namtso-Lhasa

In the early morning, you will drive through the Northern Tibet Grassland, with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind along the way. Then you will speed along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, crossing the Naghen La Pass at an altitude of 5,190 meters, and arrive at the "Heavenly Lake" 【Namtso】, the foremost of Tibet's three great sacred lakes. Namtso is at an altitude of 4,718 meters, the highest large lake in the world and China's second-largest saltwater lake. To the south is the year-round snow-capped Nyainqentanglha Mountains, and to the north and west are plateau hills. The vast lakeshore is surrounded by grasslands with lush water and grass. The lake water has high salinity, and the basin is rich in wildlife resources including yaks and goats. The lake abounds with wild birds and produces scale-less fish and naked carp. The lake water is clear, reflecting the surrounding snow-capped mountains, with beautiful scenery. Namtso is like a sparkling pearl inlaid on the vast Changtang Grassland. After the visit, return to Lhasa by the same route. Tip: The driving time today is relatively long and quite tiring, so you need to get up early. The Northern Tibet region is at a relatively high altitude, so please bring a thick coat, apply sunscreen, and bring sunglasses and a hat.

Lhasa-China-Nepal Highway-Gyantse, Granary of Tibet-Karola Glacier-Shigatse

After breakfast, you will set off from Lhasa and drive to Shigatse, the capital of Tsang. Along the way, you will cross Gambala Mountain at an elevation of 4,600 meters, where you can gaze at the Gambala Radar Station in the distance. Then you will travel alongside the winding Yamdrok Lake, cross the fertile Gyantse Plain, and visit the ancient Karola Glacier. 【Karola Glacier】is located beside the highway, like a giant thangka hanging on the mountain wall—crystal clear and pure white, so close it seems you could touch it. Finally, via the ancient city of Gyantse, proceed to Shigatse, the capital of Tsang at an elevation of 3,750 meters, for the night.

Shigatse-Qilin Gorge-Everest East Face-Rongbuk Monastery-Everest Base Camp

After breakfast, you will set off from Shigatse for Everest Base Camp. Along the way you will pass through the beautiful Kongma Grassland, then arrive at Gangba County, the land of sacred water, where you can gaze at China's most beautiful snow mountain, [Mother of Snow Mountains — Qomoyongqing]. Legend says it is the mother of the surrounding snow mountains, hence the name Mother of Snow Mountains. Afterwards, you will continue along Route 219, also known as the China-India-Nepal Border Highway, for 45 kilometers, then arrive at the magical Qilin Gorge. [Qilin Gorge] is a famous canyon geological landscape recessed hundreds of meters below the surface within a long, deep canyon. The earth forest rises like bamboo shoots, with giant rocks propping up the sky; they stretch on in vast, interlocking arrays or in small groups lined up in order, like stern, independent guards. At Qilin Gorge, you can personally feel the uncanny workmanship of nature and marvel at its geological wonders — "majestic, strange, precipitous, and extraordinary." After lunch, you will continue along the China-India-Nepal Border Route 219 for about 30 kilometers. Along the way you can admire one of China's most beautiful snow mountains, [Rimara Snow Mountain], known locally as Renqing Snow Mountain, as well as China's largest wetland, [Dingjie Wetland]. Afterwards, you will follow the wetland to Dingjie County, the kingdom of wetlands. After a short rest here, you can gaze along the Yeru Tsangpo River valley at [the world's fourth-highest peak, Lhotse]. Then you will follow the beautiful border village road to the sacred mountain [Longren Mountain], where you can view up close the world's fifth-highest peak, Makalu, and the east face of Everest. Here it is a "grand platter of beautiful scenery": the golden sunrise on three 8,000-meter-class snow peaks — Everest (8,844 m), Lhotse (8,516 m, world's fourth), and Makalu (8,463 m, world's fifth) — as well as Chomolonzo (7,804 m), unfold before your eyes one after another. Afterwards, you will head to the world's highest temple — Rongbuk Monastery. [Rongbuk Monastery] is universally recognized as the best place to look up at Everest. Then you will arrive at [Everest Base Camp], take a photo with the altitude stone marker at Everest Base Camp, and here you will dance with the world's highest peak, Mount Everest; if you are lucky, you may also see Everest's banner cloud drifting like a flame of life. Tip: In winter, the Rongbuk Monastery camp tents are not open, so accommodation will be changed to a multi-person room in a Basong village guesthouse.

Everest Base Camp-Gyatsola Pass-Shigatse

In the early morning, while the peaks still slumber in the dawn, you will face the rising sun and look up at Mount Everest, receiving a baptism of the soul from the world's highest peak, [Mount Everest] (altitude 8,844.43 meters). The summit of Everest is covered with snow that never melts year-round, with hanging glaciers and towering silver peaks, presenting a wholly holy scene. Afterwards, carrying your lingering attachment to the beauty of Everest, you will admire a corner of the majestic, magnificent and endlessly winding Himalayas, and the surging Yarlung River valley, as you return to Shigatse.

Shigatse-Tashilhunpo Monastery-Tibetan Folk Village-Lhasa

In the morning, you will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the six great Gelug monasteries built in 1447 and the traditional seat of the Panchen Erdeni. The monastery houses the world's largest seated bronze Buddha statue, the 28-meter-tall "Qamba Buddha" (Maitreya Buddha). After paying respects at the stupa of the 10th Panchen Lama, you will visit the Shigatse free market and view the Sky Burial Platform from afar. Afterwards, you will set off for a Tibetan Folk Village. There, you can experience an authentic Tibetan home visit, learn about the local culture, and see the process of making handicrafts. Then you will follow the Yarlung Tsangpo River valley back to Lhasa, enjoying the scenery of the Tsang river valley along the way and feeling the grandeur of the plateau's greatest river. Upon arrival in Lhasa, the tour will disband freely. Note: In winter, the Tibetan home visit is not available and this activity will be cancelled.
