Lhasa-Namtso Sacred Elephant Gate
In the early morning, depart from Lhasa, speeding along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, passing through the vast grasslands of northern Tibet, with colorful prayer flags fluttering along the way and the infinite scenery of the Qiangtang grasslands, with the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains perpetually snow-covered in the distance—breathtakingly beautiful. Then arrive at Namtso, the "Heavenly Lake," first among Tibet's three sacred lakes, at an elevation of 4,718 meters. The lakeshore is vast, surrounded by grasslands, with clear lake water reflecting the surrounding snow-capped mountains, beautiful scenery, like a crystal-clear pearl set in the vast Qiangtang grasslands.
Visit the Sacred Elephant Heavenly Gate, the core scenic area on the north shore of Namtso. The elephant-trunk-like large stone gate lies quietly by the lake, with a crescent-moon-shaped shoreline in front, where the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains and Namtso gaze at each other. Snow mountains and lake water merge, the lake surface is azure like a mirror, devout Tibetan pilgrims leave traces of prayers around, and prayer flags and hadas flutter in this serene and beautiful place. In the afternoon when the sun sets, it is the most beautiful time at the Sacred Elephant Heavenly Gate, making it easy to capture stunning photographs.
