Arrival Suggestions By plane: Lhasa Gonggar Airport is Tibet's main gateway airport, with direct flights to and from Chengdu (the most popular), Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xining, Kunming, Shangri-La, and other cities. In addition, it also has the only direct international flight route, to Kathmandu, Nepal. By train: Taking the Qinghai-Tibet Railway into Tibet is also a very popular choice. You can take the train to Tibet from cities such as Xining (the starting point of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, 21h), Chengdu (36.5h), Chongqing (35.5h), Beijing (40.5h), Shanghai (47h), Guangzhou (52.5h), Xi'an (31h), and Lanzhou (24.5h). Warm Tips 1. On the day of arrival in Lhasa, do not do strenuous exercise, and do not take a shower or drink alcohol. Rest more, drink water, eat fruit, and avoid overeating. You may bring American ginseng lozenges or health medicines such as rhodiola and Gao Yuan An to relieve altitude sickness. 2. Follow the guide's arrangements, try not to go out for activities, and maintaining a calm mindset and sufficient rest is the best way to prevent altitude sickness. 3. When you feel unwell, please promptly seek help from the guide or hotel staff and go to the hospital for treatment.

After breakfast, visit the Jokhang Temple, the holy site in the hearts of Tibetan Buddhist believers. [Jokhang Temple] was first built in 647 AD and has a history of 1,350 years. It is the most splendid surviving Tubo-period building in Tibet, with 5 golden roofs and 108 Buddha halls. Here, you can see the rare life-size statue of Shakyamuni at age 12 and devout pilgrims worshipping in front of the Jokhang Temple. In the afternoon, travel by car for about 30 km (50 minutes) to visit Sera Monastery, one of the three great monasteries of Lhasa. [Sera Monastery] is also one of the six main monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is solemn and sacred. At Sera Monastery, you can watch the famous Buddhist debate activity. The debate usually starts at 15:00 (except Sundays). During the debate, the lamas in the courtyard engage in fierce debate, and you can truly feel the faith and power of Tibetan Buddhism. Finally, return to central Lhasa and visit [Barkhor Street]. This is not only the route for local kora rituals but also a very lively ancient commercial street. Here you can encounter locals wearing Tibetan robes and devout pilgrims, stroll through the alleys to browse handicraft shops, or find a sweet tea house and learn from Tibetan friends their tranquility and contentment. Enjoy a delicious Tibetan dinner in the evening.

After breakfast, go to visit the Potala Palace, the ancient palace-fortress architectural complex at the highest altitude in the world. [Potala Palace] is located on Mabur Ri in the northwest of downtown Lhasa. It is a magnificent building integrating palace, fortress and monastery, and also the largest and most complete ancient palace-fortress architectural complex in Tibet. The Potala Palace is built against the mountain, with 13 floors in total, 117.19 meters high and more than 400 meters long from east to west. You will climb up the long stairs of the Potala Palace step by step, overlooking Lhasa as you walk and taking in the grandeur of Lhasa City. While taking photos as souvenirs and resting, you will then enter the Potala Palace to explore this mysterious and ancient palace for which very few pictures are shown online. Afterwards, drive about 12 km (35 minutes) to visit [Drepung Monastery], one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is built layer by layer according to the mountain terrain, on a grand scale. The complex of white walls and red eaves looks especially quiet and peaceful in the sunlight. Inside the monastery, you can visit important buildings such as the Tsokchen Assembly Hall, Ganden Podrang and the four colleges in turn to learn about Tibetan Buddhist culture. You can also go to the debate courtyard to watch monks debating Buddhist teachings (around 14:00), or stroll in the monastery and seek inner peace. In addition, around August each year, a grand Buddha-unveiling ceremony is held here, which is the well-known Shoton Festival.

After breakfast, you will depart from Lhasa and drive about 6 hours (about 270 kilometers) to Gyantse, an important historical and cultural town in Tibet. On the way, you will first cross the 【Gampa La Pass】at an altitude of 4,990 meters. From the pass, you can take in a panoramic view of Yamdrok Lake, like a blue silk ribbon drifting among the mountains, and the majestic Noijin Kangsang Snow Mountain in the distance. Then continue toward Yamdrok Lake, the world's highest freshwater lake, and appreciate its beauty from multiple angles, including the mountainside and the lakeshore. 【Yamdrok Lake】is one of the three great sacred lakes of Tibet and is also praised as the most beautiful water in the world. The lake water is clear as a mirror, extending into the distance and merging with the distant snow mountains, together with the rolling mountains on both sides, creating absolutely stunning scenery. Local Tibetans praise Yamdrok Lake in folk songs: "A fairyland in heaven, Yamdrok on earth. Stars in the sky, cattle and sheep by the lake." Afterwards, the vehicle will continue driving along the shore of Yamdrok Lake for a while, allowing you to see the beautiful lake again. Then head to visit Tibet's most accessible glacier, 【Karo La Glacier】. The glacier is located right beside the highway, like a giant thangka hanging on the mountain wall, crystal clear and pure white, so close it seems you could touch it. You can admire the towering glacier from the roadside or walk to the foot of the glacier to appreciate its grandeur up close. Visiting tips 1. The Karo La Glacier scenic area is at a high altitude, over 5,000 meters. When walking along the boardwalk, please slow down. You may also carry a small oxygen bottle and inhale oxygen if you feel unwell. 2. Please beware of photo traps. If a stranger offers to take photos for you, ask in advance whether there is a charge. After the visit, head to Gyantse, the town of anti-British heroes. This is an ancient city with a history of more than 600 years and a transportation stronghold from U-Tsang to Tsang. Upon arrival, visit 【Pelkor Chode Monastery】, which integrates Tibet's three major sects. This is also one of the few monasteries in Tibet where both the monastery and stupa are completely preserved. There is a stupa in the monastery and a monastery in the stupa, naturally blending and complementing each other. Here, you will focus on visiting the Hundred Thousand Buddha Stupa, famous for its exquisite murals and carvings, and learn about the development of Tibetan Buddhism in Tsang. You can also climb to a high point and look out at the Gyantse Dzong. Finally, continue to Shigatse for hotel check-in and rest.

After breakfast, set off toward the world's highest peak - Mount Everest. The drive takes about 6-7 hours (about 330 km). On the way, you will pass [Gawula Pass] at an altitude of 5,200 meters. This is the world's only viewing platform where you can see five 8,000-meter-class snow peaks (Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Shishapangma). You will stop here for a while and fully enjoy the beautiful snow mountains. Afterward, arrive at [Everest Base Camp]. This is not only the best viewing point for Mount Everest, but also the best accommodation point for visiting Mount Everest. Here, you can enjoy the stunning sunrise and sunset over Mount Everest and the starry night sky. On first arrival, you can rest and adapt for a while, then walk to visit [Rongbuk Monastery]. This is the world's highest monastery and also the best viewing point for the north face of Mount Everest, only 20 km from the peak. Here, you can enter the monastery to visit and see this ancient temple standing beneath the snowy sky, where time seems to stand still. You can also look out at Mount Everest from the white stupa outside the monastery, which is also the most common scene in many Mount Everest postcards and posters. If you have good stamina, you can continue along the road to the Mount Everest altitude marker for a group photo. In the evening, stay in a tent at Base Camp (the tents are multi-person rooms with limited conditions, and they close in winter, in which case accommodation will be changed to a guesthouse in a village near Mount Everest).

This morning, you may try your luck by getting up early, hoping to encounter the most magnificent Everest sunrise and once again admire the majestic figure of the world's highest peak from different angles. Then after breakfast, return to Shigatse. Along the way, you will stop again at [Gawu La Pass] and [Gyatsola Pass] to look back at Mount Everest, and finally arrive at your hotel in Shigatse to rest.

After breakfast, go to visit [Tashilhunpo Monastery]. This is the largest monastery in Shigatse and also the seat of successive Panchen Lamas. It was once the political ruling center of the important rear Tibet region. The monastery enshrines the world's largest seated bronze Buddha statue, the 28-meter-high "Maitreya Buddha" (that is, the statue of Maitreya). Here, you can visit buildings such as the Panchen Lama's residence, the sutra college, the stupa hall and the Buddha-unveiling platform, learn about the long cultural history of Tibetan Buddhism and its development process in the rear Tibet region, and also see exquisite murals, carvings and other cultural relics. If interested, you can also climb to a high place to overlook the panorama of the monastery and the distant view of downtown Shigatse. Afterwards, drive about 280 km (about 3h40m) back to Lhasa. Along the way, you can enjoy the magnificent Yarlung Valley scenery through the window, seeing the wide riverbed and the peaceful village and farmland scenery..., and finally return to your hotel in downtown Lhasa. After breakfast, depart from Lhasa to visit Namtso, one of the three great sacred lakes of Tibet. The drive is about 280 kilometers and takes about 4-5 hours. Along the way, you can enjoy the broad Lhasa River Valley, the majestic Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, yaks grazing leisurely on the grasslands of northern Tibet, and other Tibetan scenery. Then, as you approach Namtso, you will arrive at the 【Lakenla Pass】at an altitude of 5,190 meters. The mani piles at Lakenla Pass are covered with prayer flags, representing reverence for the gods in the hearts of Tibetans. Standing at the pass and looking north, you can gaze at the beautiful Namtso. Then arrive at Namtso for sightseeing. 【Namtso】means "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan and is the second-largest lake in Tibet. The lake surface is broad, and the water is deep blue and clear. The vast lakeside grasslands surround the lake, with abundant water and grass. Wild animals such as bears, wild yaks, wild donkeys, and rock sheep, as well as many wild birds, often inhabit the lakeside. Standing on the shore and looking into the distance, you can see the majestic main peak of Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain in the distance, like a mighty protector always guarding Namtso. (Namtso is divided into two scenic areas: Tashi Peninsula and Sacred Elephant Gate. Today you will visit Tashi Peninsula.) Tips: The drive today is relatively long and tiring, so you need to get up early. The northern Tibet region is at a relatively high altitude, so please bring a thick coat, apply sunscreen, and bring sunglasses and a hat. After visiting Namtso, return to your hotel in Lhasa's urban area for check-in.
