For the remaining time, you can rest well at the hotel and let your body gradually adapt to the high-altitude environment. Arrival Suggestions By plane: Lhasa Gonggar Airport is Tibet's main gateway airport, with direct flights to and from Chengdu (most popular), Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xining, Kunming, Shangri-La, and other cities. In addition, it has the only international direct flight route, to Kathmandu, Nepal. By train: Taking the Qinghai-Tibet Railway into Tibet is also a very popular choice. You can take the train to Tibet from Xining (the starting point of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, 21h), Chengdu (36.5h), Chongqing (35.5h), Beijing (40.5h), Shanghai (47h), Guangzhou (52.5h), Xi'an (31h), Lanzhou (24.5h), and other cities. Warm tips: Do not do strenuous exercise on the day you arrive in Lhasa, and do not take a shower that night to prevent catching a cold. Do not drink alcohol. Drink plenty of water and eat fruit, and avoid overeating. Rest more. You may bring American ginseng lozenges or health supplements such as rhodiola and Gao Yuan An to relieve altitude sickness. Follow the guide's arrangements, try not to go out for activities, and maintaining a calm mindset and adequate rest is the best way to prevent altitude sickness. After breakfast, head to visit the world's highest ancient palace and castle complex - the Potala Palace. [Potala Palace] is located on Maburi Mountain in the northwest of Lhasa city. It is a magnificent building integrating palace, castle, and monastery, and is also the largest and most complete ancient palace and castle complex in Tibet. The Potala Palace is built against the mountain, with a total of 13 floors, 117.19 meters high, and more than 400 meters long from east to west. You will climb up the long stairs of the Potala Palace, overlooking Lhasa as you go, taking in the magnificent view of Lhasa city. While taking photos and resting, you will then enter the Potala Palace to explore this mysterious and ancient palace that is rarely shown in pictures online. Afterwards, head to visit the sacred site in the hearts of Tibetan Buddhist followers - the Jokhang Temple. [Jokhang Temple] was first built in 647 AD, with a history of 1,350 years. It is the most splendid surviving Tubo-period building in Tibet, with 5 golden roofs and 108 Buddha halls. Here, you can see the world's rare 12-year-old life-size statue of Sakyamuni and devout pilgrims worshipping in front of the Jokhang Temple. Finally, you can stroll through [Barkhor Street]. This is not only the route for the local kora ritual, but also a very lively ancient commercial street. You can encounter locals in Tibetan robes and devout pilgrims, stroll through the alleys to browse handicraft shops, or find a sweet tea house and learn the tranquility and contentment of Tibetan friends. Enjoy a delicious Tibetan dinner in the evening.

2026 Shoton Festival Date: 30th day of the 6th month of the Tibetan calendar (August 12, 2026 in the Gregorian calendar) After breakfast, drive about 12 km (35 minutes) to visit [Drepung Monastery], one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, and take part in the grand annual Shoton Festival Buddha-unveiling ceremony. On the thangka platform, a giant thangka of Shakyamuni Buddha tens of meters high is slowly unveiled amid devout chanting, with tens of thousands of monks and laypeople gathered around the enormous Buddha thangka, tossing khata scarves and bowing piously—a truly magnificent and spectacular scene. Besides joining the festival, you can also admire the grand monastery complex built layer by layer along the mountain, or visit important structures such as the Tsokchen Assembly Hall, Ganden Podrang, and the four major dratsangs in turn to gain a deeper understanding of Tibetan Buddhist culture. In the afternoon, drive about 30 km (50 minutes) to visit [Sera Monastery], one of the six main monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is solemn and sacred, and here you can watch Tibet's famous monk debates, which usually begin at 15:00 (except Sundays). During the debates, the monks engage in fierce argument, and you can truly feel the faith and power of Tibetan Buddhism.

Today you will head to Norbulingka to celebrate the Shoton Festival together with the local Tibetans. [Norbulingka] was first built in the 18th century, originally ordered by the 7th Dalai Lama Kelsang Gyatso. It is the largest, most scenic, and most richly endowed with historical sites among all man-made gardens in Tibet. It also once served as the summer office and reception venue for successive Dalai Lamas to meet with monks and lay officials. Now it is open to the public as a scenic spot, and it is an important venue for Tibetan opera performances and public entertainment during the Shoton Festival in Lhasa. During the Shoton Festival, you can watch the traditional Eight Great Tibetan Operas performed in turn, with actors wearing colorful masks to perform classic traditional Tibetan opera repertoire, accompanied by drums and cymbals and Tibetan song and dance, creating a very strong festive atmosphere. You can also stroll through the garden, enjoy the beautiful Tibetan-style garden scenery, and learn about its long history and culture. Around noon, you can experience a special Lingka picnic activity in the garden, sitting in a circle together with some biscuits, dried fruits, tsampa, sweet tea, snacks, and more, chatting with one another and experiencing a Tibetan-style picnic. If time permits, you can also visit the [Tibet Museum] located at the southeast corner of Norbulingka. This is the first museum in Tibet with modern functions, housing numerous prehistoric cultural relics and other rich collections, such as statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in various materials and forms, and Tibetan-language scriptures handwritten with gold powder, silver powder, coral powder, and more through the ages.
