D1
Arrive in Qufu: Confucius Museum + Nishan Sacred Land
Welcome to Qufu, Shandong—the hometown of Confucius. Our driver will greet you at the exit of Qufu Railway Station and escort you to the hotel for check-in. The first stop of today's itinerary is a visit to the [Confucius Museum], China's only national-level Confucius-themed museum. Through multimedia displays, you can gain an in-depth understanding of Confucius's life and his Confucian thought and culture. Highlights include the "Confucius Family Genealogy" (Ming Dynasty silk manuscript, inscribed on the Memory of the World Register), the Warring States yellow jade horse (a national first-class cultural relic and a representative jade carving ornament from the Warring States period), and the Ten Offerings of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties (bronze ritual vessels bestowed by Emperor Qianlong to the Temple of Confucius), among other precious cultural relics. Afterward, take about a 30-minute drive to the Confucius cultural tourism destination—[Nishan Sacred Land]. Here stands the world's tallest and largest statue of Confucius, 72 meters high, symbolizing Confucius's most outstanding seventy-two disciples. You can view it up close. The magnificent building built against the mountain within the scenic area—the Great Hall—is an excellent place to learn about Confucius's Confucian thought. It contains an introduction to Confucius's life, and you can also admire modern antique architectural art and exquisite caisson wood carvings, as well as experience traditional Chinese ritual and music culture. At Nishan Academy, you can experience calligraphy, writing classic Confucian sayings, and feel the charm of Confucian culture through writing. In addition, in the interactive experience area, you can deeply experience Confucian etiquette, ancient musical instrument performances, archery, and even drive ancient war chariots, immersing yourself in the life of Confucius's disciples. Optional experience: "Golden Sound and Jade Vibration" live performance This is a large-scale indoor stage play planned by Zhang Yimou's team. Using "ritual and music praise" as its thread, it artistically interprets Confucius's life, integrating dance, instrumental music, chanting, and other forms, and is extremely visually stunning! After the tour, you will be taken to your hotel in Qufu for rest. How to get to Qufu: You can take the high-speed rail from Jinan (about 0.5-1 hour), Beijing (about 2 hours), Shanghai (about 3.5-4 hours), or Tianjin (about 2 hours).

Qufu Confucius Culture Day Tour: Temple of Confucius + Kong Family Mansion + Cemetery of Confucius
Today, you will embark on a wonderful day of Qufu Confucius cultural exploration, visiting the Temple of Confucius, the Cemetery of Confucius, and the Kong Family Mansion—the "Three Confucius Sites"—to gain a deep understanding of the profound Chinese Confucian culture. It is worth noting that the Temple of Confucius, the Cemetery of Confucius, and the Kong Family Mansion were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. First, begin your tour at the Temple of Confucius. The Temple of Confucius was first built in 478 BC and is the "ancestor of Confucian temples in East Asia." Together with the Forbidden City in Beijing and the Chengde Mountain Resort, it is known as one of the "Three Great Ancient Architectural Complexes of China." Throughout history, 12 emperors held sacrificial ceremonies here, including Emperor Gaozu of Han, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, Emperor Kangxi, and Emperor Qianlong. You should focus on visiting the Dacheng Hall. The 10 deep-relief coiled dragon stone columns in front of the hall, with clearly defined dragon scales and exquisite craftsmanship, are royal artworks that even the Forbidden City cannot match—truly worth a close look. The nearby Apricot Platform is also a must-visit; this is where Confucius lectured and is one of the landmark structures of the Temple of Confucius. Note: Around Confucius's birthday (September 28), a grand International Confucius Cultural Festival is usually held. The exact dates are slightly adjusted each year, so please refer to the latest announcement. Next, proceed to the Kong Family Mansion on the east side of the Temple of Confucius. The Kong Family Mansion was the residence and office of Confucius's direct descendants, known as "The First Family Under Heaven." Its architecture is grand in scale, with nine courtyards and hundreds of rooms, and it preserves a large number of precious cultural relics. You can stroll through the ancient buildings such as the Grand Hall, Second Hall, Third Hall, Inner Residence, and Rear Hall, learning about the hierarchy and etiquette of ancient aristocratic families. Another 1,500 meters ahead is the Cemetery of Confucius. The Cemetery of Confucius is the exclusive burial ground of Confucius and his family, and it is the largest and longest-continuing family cemetery in the world, still in use today. It is known as "The First Cemetery Under Heaven." Here, you can learn about traditional Chinese burial systems, the history of the Confucius family, and Confucian thought and culture. After the tour, you will be taken to your hotel in Qufu to rest.

Qufu to Mount Tai Hiking Day Tour: Zhongtian Gate + Nantian Gate + Jade Emperor Peak
After breakfast, you will head to Mount Tai (elevation approximately 1,545 meters) to begin an exciting hiking journey. [Mount Tai] became China's first UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site in 1987. Due to its location in the east (where the sun rises) and China's imperial Fengshan tradition, it is revered as the "Head of China's Five Great Mountains." Historically, 72 recorded emperors offered sacrifices at Mount Tai, 13 of whom held grand Fengshan ceremonies (such as Qin Shi Huang, Emperor Wu of Han, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, etc.). Hiking time: 4-5 hours (including sightseeing bus and cable car) Route: Tianwaicun Visitor Center → Sightseeing Bus (about 20 minutes) → Zhongtianmen (starting point of the hike, elevation about 847 meters, with distant views of layered peaks) → Eighteen Bends (Mount Tai's famous steep staircase, the route once taken by ancient emperors' Fengshan processions, 0.8 km long, 400 meters vertical height, 1,633 steps in total, with stone inscriptions from various dynasties along the way) → South Heavenly Gate (elevation about 1,460 meters, the gateway to the summit, anciently known as "Tianmenguan." Standing in the gateway, you can overlook the Eighteen Bends cascading like a heavenly ladder, and Confucius's feeling that "climbing Mount Tai makes the world seem small" arises spontaneously) → Jade Emperor Peak (Mount Tai's highest peak, elevation about 1,545 meters, where you can check in at the "Head of the Five Great Mountains" stone inscription featured on the 5-yuan banknote and the Jade Emperor Temple's summit stone) → South Heavenly Gate → Cable Car → Sightseeing Bus → Tianwaicun Visitor Center PS: Zhongtianmen → South Heavenly Gate is the highlight section of the Mount Tai hike. Practical Tips 1. Clothing advice: Even in summer, the summit temperature is relatively low. It is recommended to bring a lightweight windproof jacket or thin down jacket, and you may also prepare gloves and a hat. 2. Energy supply: Hiking is physically demanding. It is recommended to carry high-energy snacks such as chocolate, or buy drinking water, cucumbers, fruit, etc. along the way to replenish your energy. 3. Climbing technique: The Eighteen Bends steps are steep (70-80 degree slope). It is recommended to walk in a zigzag pattern to conserve energy. Optional activity (advance reservation required): You may visit the Mount Tai Shadow Puppet Intangible Cultural Heritage Theater to enjoy a wonderful shadow puppet performance and, under the guidance of a inheritor, make a simple shadow puppet by hand and try operating it. Contact our customer service to book a visit! After the tour, our driver will take you to the airport or train station for your next destination. Extended journey: You can take the high-speed rail to Qingdao (about 3-3.5 hours), Beijing (about 2-2.5 hours), or Shanghai (4-4.5 hours).
