Arrival in Tai'an by High-Speed Rail: Dai Temple
Welcome to Tai'an, Shandong! Your Mount Tai hiking adventure begins here! Our driver will meet you at the exit of Tai'an Railway Station and escort you to the hotel for check-in. After a short rest, you will be taken to visit the Dai Temple. The Dai Temple was first built in the Han Dynasty (over 2,200 years ago) and is the sacred site where ancient emperors worshipped the God of Mount Tai. Known as the "epitome of Mount Tai," it is not only the ancestral temple of Mount Tai worship but also a concentration of Mount Tai's thousand-year history and culture. Together with the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Temple of Confucius in Qufu, and the Chengde Mountain Resort, it is known as one of the "Four Great Ancient Architectural Complexes of China." Visiting Suggestions 1. Tiankuang Hall: The main hall of the Dai Temple, enshrining the God of Mount Tai. The murals around it depict the grand scene of the God of Mount Tai's inspection tour, dazzling the eyes. Its architectural style is on par with the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City and the Dacheng Hall of the Temple of Confucius. 2. Qin Dynasty Stone Inscription (Li Si Stele): The remnant of the Mount Tai stone inscription in seal script by Li Si, Prime Minister of Qin Shi Huang, dating back over 2,200 years. It is the temple's greatest treasure. 3. Han Cypress Courtyard: Ancient cypress trees said to have been planted by Emperor Wu of Han himself, complementing the thousand-year-old stone carvings. After the visit, return to the hotel to rest well and prepare for tomorrow's Mount Tai hiking adventure. Optional: You can watch the live performance "Chinese Mount Tai: Grand Ceremony of Feng and Shan" at the Tianzhu Peak Scenic Area in Tai'an, experiencing the grand rituals of ancient Chinese emperors worshipping heaven and earth. How to Get to Tai'an 1. High-speed rail (most popular): Tai'an is one of the major stations on the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway. You can take the high-speed rail to Tai'an from Beijing (about 2 hours) or Shanghai (about 4 hours). 2. Airport + high-speed rail: Tai'an has no airport. You can first fly to Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport (TNA), which has flights covering major Chinese cities as well as Sydney, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Bangkok, and more. Then take the high-speed rail, which takes only 0.8 hours to reach Tai'an.

Mount Tai Hiking Day Trip: Zhongtian Gate + Nantian Gate + Jade Emperor Peak
After breakfast, you will head to Mount Tai (elevation approximately 1,545 meters) to begin an exciting hiking journey. [Mount Tai] became China's first UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site in 1987. Due to its location in the east (where the sun rises) and China's imperial Fengshan tradition, it is revered as the "Head of China's Five Great Mountains." Historically, 72 recorded emperors offered sacrifices at Mount Tai, 13 of whom held grand Fengshan ceremonies (such as Qin Shi Huang, Emperor Wu of Han, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, etc.). Hiking time: 4-5 hours (including sightseeing bus and cable car) Route: Tianwaicun Visitor Center → Sightseeing Bus (about 20 minutes) → Zhongtianmen (starting point of the hike, elevation about 847 meters, with distant views of layered peaks) → Eighteen Bends (Mount Tai's famous steep staircase, the route once taken by ancient emperors' Fengshan processions, 0.8 km long, 400 meters vertical height, 1,633 steps in total, with stone inscriptions from various dynasties along the way) → South Heavenly Gate (elevation about 1,460 meters, the gateway to the summit, anciently known as "Tianmenguan." Standing in the gateway, you can overlook the Eighteen Bends cascading like a heavenly ladder, and Confucius's feeling that "climbing Mount Tai makes the world seem small" arises spontaneously) → Jade Emperor Peak (Mount Tai's highest peak, elevation about 1,545 meters, where you can check in at the "Head of the Five Great Mountains" stone inscription featured on the 5-yuan banknote and the Jade Emperor Temple's summit stone) → South Heavenly Gate → Cable Car → Sightseeing Bus → Tianwaicun Visitor Center → Return to hotel PS: Zhongtianmen → South Heavenly Gate is the highlight section of the Mount Tai hike. Practical Tips 1. Clothing advice: Even in summer, the summit temperature is relatively low. It is recommended to bring a lightweight windproof jacket or thin down jacket, and you may also prepare gloves and a hat. 2. Energy supply: Hiking is physically demanding. It is recommended to carry high-energy snacks such as chocolate, or buy drinking water, cucumbers, fruit, etc. along the way to replenish your energy. 3. Climbing technique: The Eighteen Bends steps are steep (70-80 degree slope). It is recommended to walk in a zigzag pattern to conserve energy.

Depart from Tai'an: Underground Dragon Palace
After breakfast, you will take a car for about 40 minutes to Tai'an Underground Dragon Palace (Taishan Underground Grand Canyon), starting an exciting half-day karst cave rafting trip. [Tai'an Underground Dragon Palace] is one of the largest karst caves in North China, with an underground dark river rafting route about 3,000 meters long, known as "Asia's longest underground rafting." After arriving at the visitor center, you will take a sightseeing bus to the rafting entrance, put on a waterproof raincoat, and board a small boat to begin the thrilling 3,000-meter underground dark river rafting journey (about 20 minutes). Along the way, you will pass through stalactite corridors illuminated by artificial lighting, where you can admire stalagmites and stone pillars of various shapes and appreciate the beautiful and magnificent natural scenery. After the rafting, you can freely explore the cave scenery along the walkways, visit landmark sights such as "East Sea Dragon Palace" and "Dinghai Shenzhen," and enjoy amazing views including underground waterfalls and stalactite clusters. Practical Tips 1. The underground karst cave maintains a constant temperature of about 18°C year-round. It is recommended to bring a light jacket in case of chill. 2. Rafting may splash water onto your clothes. It is recommended to wear slip-resistant waterproof shoes and bring spare socks. Optional activity (advance reservation required): You can visit the Taishan Shadow Puppetry Intangible Cultural Heritage Theater, enjoy a wonderful shadow puppetry performance, and under the guidance of an inheritor, make a simple shadow puppet by hand and try operating it. You can contact our website customer service to book a visit! After the tour, our driver will take you to the airport or train station for your next destination. If you want to extend your trip to the Temple of Confucius in Qufu or Qingdao, you can take the high-speed rail to the Temple of Confucius in Qufu (about 20 minutes) or the coastal city of Qingdao (about 3-3.5 hours).
