Arrival in Yinchuan (before noon): transfer service + free time
Welcome to Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia! After arriving at Yinchuan Hedong International Airport (INC) or Yinchuan Railway Station, our driver will meet you at the exit and escort you to our carefully selected Yinchuan hotel for check-in and rest. After that, you can arrange your time freely and fully feel the charm of this city. Yinchuan is a miraculous city where the "Jiangnan Beyond the Great Wall" and the ancient capital of Western Xia intertwine. The Yellow River has gifted it 80,000 hectares of water and more than 200 lakes, making it unique in northern China. It was once the capital of the mysterious Western Xia dynasty (1038–1227) and is an excellent place to explore the Western Xia Imperial Tombs and learn about that lost civilization. You can also experience vivid Hui ethnic customs and taste "Oriental Bordeaux" fine wines from the wine-producing area at the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains. Recommended free-time activities 1. Lanshan Park (at dusk): This is a classic spot to watch the sunset over the "Lakeside City Beyond the Great Wall" and see the sky dyed golden. You can climb the steps of the Roman-style architectural complex and take in the magnificent scenery of the desert oasis. 2. Huaiyuan Sightseeing Night Market (dinner experience): Taste freshly grilled lamb skewers, sweet and mellow eight-treasure tea, and various Northwest-style snacks, feel the most authentic local street life, and experience the lively life of local people. Arrival Guide 1. How to get to Yinchuan: Yinchuan Hedong International Airport has direct flights to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi'an; the high-speed rail network connects Lanzhou, Xi'an, and Inner Mongolia, making transportation very convenient. 2. Best travel seasons: Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) have the most comfortable climate. In winter, you can enjoy desert snow scenery. Although summer is hot, it is a good time to experience desert activities such as camel riding at Shapotou.

Yinchuan day tour: Western Xia Imperial Tombs + Helan Mountain Rock Art + Silver Heights Winery
This morning, you will head to the Western Xia Tombs, about 30 kilometers from the city, for a visit. [Western Xia Tombs] are the royal tombs of the Western Xia dynasty (1038-1227), where nine emperors, including founding emperor Li Yuanhao, rest. They are not only the most magnificent physical remains of Western Xia civilization but also a World Cultural Heritage Site, known as the "Oriental Pyramids." It is worth mentioning that Western Xia once dominated the vital route of the Silk Road and was ultimately destroyed by Mongol cavalry. Its culture blended the boldness of the Tangut people, the depth of Buddhism, and the essence of Han culture, making it an excellent place to explore the mysterious Western Xia civilization. You can take a sightseeing bus (fee included) through the tomb area, with the towering Helan Mountains as the backdrop, and feel the vastness and grandeur of the Western Xia royal tombs. Highlights not to be missed 1. Tomb No. 3: The largest and best-preserved tomb, said to be the mausoleum of Western Xia founding emperor Li Yuanhao. You can clearly see the complete layout of que platforms, stele pavilions, Moon City, tomb city, and tomb tower. 2. Western Xia Museum: A must-visit place to gain an in-depth understanding of Western Xia history. Through precious artifacts such as bronze oxen and glazed chiwen roof ornaments, as well as the unique Western Xia script (similar to Chinese characters but an independent system), you can intuitively and quickly understand the Western Xia dynasty. In the afternoon, head to the Helan Mountain Rock Art. [Helan Mountain Rock Art] is an art treasure left by ancient nomadic peoples (such as the Xiongnu and Tangut), created over thousands of years. Its content covers scenes of hunting, sacrifice, and dance, and it is a living fossil for studying ancient spiritual beliefs and social life. You can read the "prehistoric diary" carved on stone and converse across time with ancestors from thousands of years ago. Suggested visiting order 1. Yinchuan World Rock Art Museum (visit first): China's first and the world's largest rock art-themed museum. It not only systematically and comprehensively introduces Helan Mountain rock art but also has exquisite reproductions of rock art from around the world. 2. Rock Art Site Area: Take an electric vehicle (fee included in the itinerary) to the valley entrance and follow the boardwalk to view hundreds of essential rock art pieces. (Note: Please bring binoculars to observe rock art in high places. These rock art pieces are ancient and fragile; please do not touch or climb.) Key searches: Look for the mysterious "Sun God" rock art and try to spot rock sheep blended into the rocks. 3. Han Meilin Art Museum: If time permits, you can also visit the nearby Han Meilin Art Museum, which displays sculptures, paintings, and other artworks created with rock art elements, achieving a wonderful dialogue between ancient art and modern aesthetics. Next, you will visit [Silver Heights Winery], a representative boutique winery located at about 1,200 meters above sea level in the Helan Mountains of Ningxia. Regarded as a "pilgrimage site" for Chinese wine, this winery was founded by Ms. Gao Yuan, who systematically studied winemaking techniques in France, and perfectly blends traditional French winemaking techniques with the unique terroir of Ningxia's Helan Mountains. Tasting experience: You will have the opportunity to taste its internationally award-winning wines, such as the "Family Reserve" series. With excellent quality, this wine has been selected to entertain state guests such as former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and is a proud symbol of Chinese boutique wine going global. Visit contents: You can visit the winery's vineyard in the Jinshan production area of Helan County, learn about its cultivation philosophy up close, and enter its distinctive wine cellar to hear the winemaker tell the story of the rise of Chinese wine.

Yinchuan to Shapotou day tour: desert activities + Yellow River adventure + stargazing camping
Today's itinerary will take you to experience Ningxia's remarkable natural wonders. Arrive at [Shapotou Scenic Area], hailed as "one of China's most beautiful deserts," and feel the majestic mood of "a lone plume of smoke rises straight in the vast desert, the setting sun rounds over the long river," experiencing the unique delight of desert and Yellow River intertwined. Shapotou is located on the southeastern edge of the Tengger Desert, where the Yellow River makes an elegant "ji"-shaped bend, forming a peerless wonder where desert, Yellow River, oasis, and mountains coexist as four elements. When people slide down the sand slope, the sand layer emits a "hum—hum—" roaring sound, like a golden bell tolling, hence the name "Golden Sand Singing Bell," which is quite extraordinary. Optional activities at Shapotou (at your own expense) You can take the shuttle bus running between the desert area and the Yellow River area to fully enjoy the charm of Shapotou. 1. Thrilling desert activities Sand sliding: Ride a sandboard down a hundred-meter sand slope with a whoosh, experiencing the double delight of speed and singing sand. Sand surfing: Ride a professional off-road vehicle, diving and spiraling at high speed among the dunes, experiencing the ultimate thrill of weightlessness and bumps. Camel riding: Ride a camel across the desert, experiencing the ancient way of traveling along the Silk Road. 2. Yellow River adventures Yellow River zipline: A desert ropeway about 820 meters long (Asia's first) spanning the Yellow River, flying over the Yellow River from the air and taking in its magnificent waves from a one-of-a-kind perspective. Sheepskin raft drifting: An ancient river-crossing tool made of 14 inflated sheepskin bladders (about 2,000 years of history), drifting with the current on the Yellow River while listening to the rafters sing folk songs—a truly unique cultural experience. Warm tip: For all adventure activities, please be sure to assess your own condition and strictly follow safety guidelines. Tonight you will camp in the desert, sleeping under a stunning starry sky. If you would prefer to stay in a hotel, please let us know at any time.

Shapotou-Wuzhong-Yinchuan tour: Wuzhong morning tea (at own expense) + Qingtongxia Yellow River Grand Canyon (boat cruise) + Shuidonggou Site
This morning, you will head to Wuzhong. (Optional paid activity: the renowned Ningxia Wuzhong morning tea, where you can taste beef noodles, eight-treasure tea, lamb offal, and various pastries, experiencing the comfort and abundance of Ningxia people's mornings.) Then, head to Qingtongxia Yellow River Grand Canyon. The Qingtongxia Yellow River Grand Canyon is known as "Dujiangyan in the south, Qingtongxia in the north." Its canyon is majestic and is a world irrigation engineering heritage with over 2,000 years of history. Tour suggestions 1. Explore water conservancy civilization: Visit the Qingtongxia Water Conservancy Hub Project (built in the 1960s-70s) and the Water Conservancy Museum to learn how it created the miracle of the "Jiangnan beyond the Great Wall." 2. Canyon cruise sightseeing: Take a boat through the "Ten-Mile Long Canyon," admire the towering limestone cliffs on both sides, feel the majesty and tranquility of the Yellow River in this section, and enjoy the magnificent scenery of the "Little Three Gorges of the Yellow River." 3. Visit the 108 Stupas: After the boat tour, go ashore to visit the mysterious 108 Stupas. This Lamaist stupa group, arranged in a unique triangular array, was first built in the Western Xia period and is the spiritual landmark of the canyon. Climb to the top to overlook the magnificent panorama of the Yellow River. 4. Sheepskin raft drifting (optional paid): Try riding an ancient sheepskin raft and drift on the Yellow River, experiencing the fun of this water transportation tool passed down for thousands of years. (Note: This project is strictly limited by water level and weather conditions. Please be sure to assess your own condition and follow safety regulations.) In the afternoon, you will visit the Shuidonggou Site, known as the "birthplace of Chinese prehistoric archaeology." It is like an open three-dimensional history book, wonderfully condensing "30,000-year-old ancient human life" and "500-year-old Ming Dynasty military fortress" into the same time and space. Tour suggestions You can visit the Shuidonggou Site Museum and travel back to ancient times through artifacts and vivid 4D films; you can also visit the Ming Dynasty earthen Great Wall and experience the wonderful feeling of "one foot across two provinces (Ningxia/Inner Mongolia)," overlooking the former frontier battlefield; or go deep into the underground military city (Hidden Troop Cave) to feel the ancient traps, meeting hall, stove and well, armory, and sentry posts, which is highly adventurous. In addition, the tour design at Shuidonggou is highly creative. Various special transportation connections (such as camel carts, donkey carts, bamboo rafts, etc.) make this historical journey full of fun and surprises. In the evening, rest in Yinchuan.

Yinchuan-Tengger-Yinchuan tour: Tengger Desert off-road experience + Five-Colored Lake exploration
Today, you will embark on an exciting desert off-road adventure to the [heart of the Tengger Desert] (about 160 km from Yinchuan) in Alxa Left Banner, Inner Mongolia, exploring the "colorful gems" scattered across the golden sea of sand—a cluster of desert lakes. This is a true "roadless journey": you will leave the highway and cross about 50 km of rolling dunes, reveling in the pristine beauty of nature. Core Experience: Off-Road Crossing and Lake-Hunting Journey 1. Off-Road Crossing, Racing Across the Sea of Sand You will ride in a professional four-wheel-drive off-road vehicle, led by an experienced driver, and experience the weightless thrill of "dune bashing"—charging up steep sand ridges, then plunging into deep sand valleys, with the wheels kicking up golden waves of sand, fully enjoying the pure sense of freedom as you surge up and down over the boundless dunes. (PS: During dune bashing, please hold on to the handrail) 2. Seeking Hidden Wonders, Encountering the "Colorful Lakes" You will visit several lakes of strikingly different colors one by one. Most are fed by underground springs and are oases of life as well as magical fields of color—bright red, pink, emerald green, or azure blue... The colors change with the seasons and lighting, creating a dreamlike and breathtaking scene. Must-See Lake Highlights Ulan Lake: Known as the "Heart of the Earth," its most stunning spectacle occurs in summer, when the lake water turns deep red and wine red due to abundant "brine shrimp" and minerals. Viewed from above, it looks like a "beating heart" set in the golden desert, an absolute focal point for photography. Swan Lake: Known as the "Desert Oasis," it is a precious freshwater lake in the desert. Reeds and vegetation grow along its shores, attracting migratory birds and waterfowl. It reveals the gentle, vibrant side of the desert, forming a poetic contrast with the surrounding desolation. Camel Lake / Suhaitu Lake, etc.: Known as the "palette," these distinctive lakes of different colors change hues according to season and weather, each one a unique natural work of art. Visiting Tips 1. Photography Secrets: Find the top of a higher dune and shoot downward to capture the strong color contrast between the lakes and the dunes. 2. Unique Experience: Under safe guidance, you may gently step on the hard crust of salt crystals or minerals precipitated around the lakes to feel this peculiar geological structure. Travel Tips 1. Sun Protection and Protection: It is recommended to wear long-sleeved sun-protective clothing, a headscarf, a face mask, sunglasses, etc., and apply high-SPF sunscreen. 2. Electronic Devices: Prepare a dust-proof cover for your phone; sand dust gets in everywhere. 3. Plenty of Drinking Water: The desert is hot and dehydration happens very quickly. It is recommended to carry far more drinking water than usual. 4. Protect the Environment: These lake ecosystems are extremely fragile, so please be sure to take all your trash with you.
