Landing in Kunming
Kunming Airport to Hotel to Congratulations, You Made It
You fly into Kunming (the "City of Eternal Spring" - yes, the weather is suspiciously nice). We pick you up, get you to your hotel, and let you recover from that flight. No tour guide lecturing you about local history at 8 PM. Just rest.

Off to Dali
High-Speed Train to Erhai Lake Vibes to Shuanglang Ancient Town
Morning train to Dali (because Chinese high-speed rail is ridiculously fast - many trains have Wi-Fi). First stop: Ideal State Santorini - yes, someone built a Greek-style village by Erhai Lake. Is it authentic? No. Is it gorgeous for photos? Absolutely. You'll spend the morning here soaking in those impossibly blue lake views.
Afternoon brings Xiaoputuo Island (a tiny temple perched on the water) and Shuanglang Ancient Town, where cobblestone streets wind along the lakeshore. Tonight you'll stay in Dali, probably falling asleep to the sight of mountains framed by your hotel window.

Dali to Lijiang
Ancient City Strolls to Bike Ride to Tie-Dye Workshop to Lijiang Old Town
Morning: Start in Dali Ancient City - think city walls, street food vendors, and yes, plenty of other tourists. Then grab a bike and ride along the S-curve at Panxi Village. Trust us, your Instagram will thank you.
Afternoon: Stop in Xizhou Ancient Town for a hands-on tie-dye workshop. You'll actually make something to take home (not just watch a demonstration).
Evening: Drive to Lijiang, check into your hotel, then lose yourself in Lijiang Old Town. It's a maze of bridges and lanterns, and it's way more charming after dark.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Cable Car Up to Blue Moon Valley to Shuhe Ancient Town
Time for the big one: Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5,590 meters of "wow"). We take the small cable car to Yun Shan Ping (Spruce Meadow) - alpine meadows with snow peaks towering behind you (bring a jacket, it's chilly up there). Then down to Blue Moon Valley, where the water is so turquoise it looks fake (it's not).
End the day in Shuhe Ancient Town, Lijiang's quieter, less touristy sibling. You'll understand why locals prefer it here.

Lijiang to Lugu Lake
Scenic Drive to Lover's Beach to Lige Peninsula to Bonfire Party
Three-hour drive to Lugu Lake, home of the Mosuo people (one of China's last matrilineal societies - women run the show). Visit Lover's Beach (Yunnan's version of romantic), explore Lige Peninsula, and if you're lucky, join a bonfire party with local music and dancing.
Fair warning: the lake is stunning enough to make you seriously consider moving here. You'll stay lakeside tonight.

Lugu Lake Loop
Mosuo Home Visit to Pig Trough Boat Ride to Grass Sea to Walking Marriage Bridge to Back to Lijiang
Morning visit to a Mosuo family home (learn about "walking marriages" - it's a thing). Then hop on a pig trough boat (yes, that's the actual name - don't ask, just enjoy the ride) for a lake tour. Stop at Grass Sea and the Walking Marriage Bridge, a wooden walkway through wetlands.
Afternoon drive back to Lijiang. Rest, wander, eat. You've earned it.

Lijiang to Shangri-La
First Bend of the Yangtze to Tiger Leaping Gorge to Songzanlin Monastery
Road trip day. First stop: First Bend of the Yangtze River, where the river makes a dramatic U-turn (trust us, it's cooler than it sounds).
Next: Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the world's deepest gorges. Legend says a tiger once leaped across it. You won't, but the views are insane.
End at Songzanlin Monastery (the "Little Potala Palace"), a massive Tibetan Buddhist monastery that looks like it's been Photoshopped into the landscape. Stay in Shangri-La, elevation 3,200m - drink water, take it easy.

Train back to Kunming, we drop you at the airport, and you fly home with 4,000 photos and a serious case of "I want to come back."
