Day Highlights: Morning Reality Check: You will board the world's longest cable car ride (7.5 km of dangling-in-the-air time to contemplate your decisions). It climbs 1,279 meters. That is not a typo. Midday Adrenaline: Afternoon Redemption: Heaven's Gate (天门洞): A massive natural hole through the mountain (131.5m high, 57m wide). You will climb 999 steps to reach it. Why 999? Because Chinese numerology decided 1,000 would be showing off. By the end of the day, you will realize the scariest part was deciding which photo to post first. Overnight: Zhangjiajie City

Day Highlights: The Main Event: This is why you came. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (张家界国家森林公园) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring 3,000+ sandstone pillars that inspired Pandora's Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar. James Cameron said "I will take that" and put it in his movie. Bailong Elevator (百龙电梯): The world's tallest outdoor elevator. It takes you up 326 meters in less than 2 minutes. It is a vertical rocket disguised as tourism infrastructure. Yuanjiajie (袁家界): Walk among the floating mountains (they do not actually float, but they look like they should). The Avatar Hallelujah Mountain is here - yes, they renamed one after the movie. Peak tourism marketing at its finest. Tianzi Mountain (天子山): Named after a farmer who declared himself emperor.
