Chengdu is located in the western part of the Sichuan Basin. It is the only historical and cultural city in China whose city site and name have never changed, and it is also the birthplace of ancient Shu civilization and Sichuan cuisine culture. It is known as the "Land of Abundance" and "World Capital of Gastronomy," and is also the hometown of the giant panda.

Best Time to Travel
Spring and autumn (March–May, September–November) have mild climates and are most suitable for sightseeing; in summer you can go to Mount Qingcheng and Jiuzhaigou to escape the heat, while winter is rather cold and gloomy but offers snow views at Xiling Snow Mountain.
Transportation Guide
Chengdu Shuangliu and Tianfu airports connect domestic and international destinations; Chengdu is a railway hub in southwest China, with high-speed trains directly reaching Chongqing, Xi'an, Kunming, and other places; to Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng you can take intercity trains.
