Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake-Karola Glacier-Manla Reservoir-Shigatse
Today you will set off from Zedang for Shigatse in Tsang. Along the way you will cross the 5,030-meter-high [Gambala Pass], which is also the best spot to overlook Yamdrok Lake. The azure sky and lake waters reflect each other, and the pure lake water shows different shades of blue under the sunlight — a breathtaking sight. Afterwards, you will visit the world's highest freshwater lake — Yamdrok Lake. [Yamdrok Lake], or Yang Lake for short, means "Lake of the Swan" in Tibetan. At an elevation of 4,441 meters, it is one of the three great sacred lakes of Tibet, and its beauty surpasses all of southern Tibet. The crystal-clear water, towering snow mountains, and spotless blue sky merge into one, and the picturesque scenery makes one linger and forget to return. After visiting Yamdrok Lake, you will drive via Nagarze to visit the [Karo La Glacier] at over 5,000 meters above sea level. Karo La Glacier lies beside the highway, like a giant thangka hanging on the mountain wall — crystal clear, pure white, and so close it seems you could touch it. Afterwards, you will continue toward Shigatse. Along the way you will pass [Noijin Kangsang Snow Mountain] and [Manla Reservoir]. Noijin Kangsang Snow Mountain is shrouded in clouds year-round, with fine snow drifting down; accumulated and compacted year after year, it has formed ice layers 20–100 meters thick, and under its own gravity the ice slowly moves and develops into many glaciers. Manla Reservoir is similar to Yamdrok Lake, a stretch of emerald water embedded among the mountains. Although it is a man-made reservoir, the jade-green water set against the distant mountains looks especially beautiful. Then you will arrive in Shigatse for the night.

Shigatse-Tashilhunpo Monastery-Lhatse-Gawu La Pass-Rongbuk Monastery-Everest (Sunset, Starry Sky, Sunrise)
After breakfast, you will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of successive Panchen Lamas. Built in 1447, it is one of the six great monasteries of the Yellow Sect. It houses the world's largest indoor bronze seated Buddha statue, the Maitreya Buddha, constructed in 1914 under the supervision of the 9th Panchen Lama, Chokyi Nyima. The monastery also preserves precious Buddhist scriptures written in gold powder, including the Kangyur and Tengyur. After visiting Tashilhunpo Monastery, you will continue your journey, first crossing the Gyatso La Pass at an altitude of 5,248 meters, where you can gaze at Mount Everest in the distance and also admire Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. Then, after passing through Lhatse and a border checkpoint, you will cross the Gawu La Pass at an altitude of 5,210 meters, where you can see the spectacular sight of four snow-capped peaks over 8,000 meters lined up in a row. From left to right, these four peaks are: Makalu (8,463 meters); Lhotse (8,516 meters); Mount Everest (8,848 meters); and Cho Oyu (8,201 meters). Then take the eco-friendly bus to Everest Base Camp to experience the grandeur of nature. Along the way, you will pass by Rongbuk Monastery, the highest-altitude monastery in the world, where you can feel the most sincere and devout faith. Rongbuk Monastery is also one of the best spots to photograph Mount Everest. If you are lucky, you may also see the flag cloud of Everest drifting like a flame of life. Overnight at Everest Base Camp, where you can come face to face with the majestic bearing of the world's highest peak, Mount Everest.

Afterwards, accompanied by the beautiful Shishapangma glacier group, you will head toward Saga, passing by a roadside plateau lake, Peiku Tso, and finally arriving in Zhongba for the night.

Route A (No Kora): Zhongba-Lake Manasarovar-Lake Rakshastal-Tarchen
In the early morning, you will head west along National Highway 219, facing the first rays of sunlight, towards Tarchen. Along the way, you will pass through Payang Town in Zhongba County, a town with a strong western flavor and the highest town in the world at an elevation of 4,700 meters, where you can enjoy the vast grassland scenery. Afterwards, you will visit the sacred lake [Mapam Yumco] and the ghost lake [Lhanag-tso]. Mapam Yumco is known as the 'Mother of Rivers and Lakes in the World' and was called 'Jade Lake of the Western Heaven' by the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang in his 'Great Tang Records on the Western Regions'. It is one of the three famous sacred lakes in Tibet and, together with Mount Kailash, is known as 'Sacred Mountain and Holy Lake'. The clear water of Mapam Yumco reflects the blue sky, vast and expansive. The lake is surrounded by the Namnani Snow Mountains, and the lake and mountain scenery is enchanting. Separated from the sacred lake by a dike is the barren Lhanag-tso, known as the Ghost Lake. It is said that Mapam Yumco and Lhanag-tso are connected at the bottom; one is a freshwater sacred lake, and the other is a saltwater ghost lake. It can be said that the two form a wonder together. If you want to do the kora around Mount Kailash, you can also take the following B route for the kora. B Route (Kora): Zhongba - Mapam Yumco - Lhanag-tso - Tarchen - Mount Kailash Kora Starting Point - Zhire Temple Today you will depart from Zhongba to Tarchen. Along the way, you can view the sacred lake Mapam Yumco and the ghost lake Lhanag-tso from afar, then arrive at the starting point of the Mount Kailash kora to begin your kora today: Tarchen (elevation 4,675 meters) heading west → Two-Legged Stupa, Prayer Flag Pole → Qugu Temple (elevation 4,860 meters) → Zhire Temple (elevation 5,210 meters) As you ascend along the valley, blue skies and snow mountains accompany you all the way, with occasional rivers winding through, offering the most authentic experience of nature's craftsmanship. Along the way, you will also see the west and north faces of Mount Kailash, one towering into the clouds, the other layered and continuous. During the trek, you will have a wonderful encounter with a mountain peak, savoring diverse and unique perspectives, and deeply experiencing it. After about 22 kilometers of kora, you will arrive at Zhire Temple, where amidst the fluttering colorful prayer flags, you will sleep with piety for faith and reverence for nature. Note: Before Tarchen, it is a car journey; from Tarchen to Zhire Temple, it is a hiking journey. If you need a porter or guide, the cost is at your own expense.

Route A (No Kora): Tarchen-Lake Manasarovar (Lake Kora)-Tarchen
Today you will drive around the sacred Lake Manasarovar, a full circuit of about 90 kilometers, allowing you to enjoy the stunning scenery of the sacred lake from every angle without blind spots. [Manasarovar] is hailed as the Jade Pool of the Queen Mother of the West. Every year, thousands of pilgrims and worshippers from home and abroad come here to circumambulate the lake, with the grandest crowds in Years of the Sheep. For those who choose the kora (mountain circumambulation), today is still part of the kora itinerary. Route B (kora): Drirapuk Monastery – Sky Burial Platform – Dolma La Pass – Zutrul Phuk Monastery – Tarchen Today you will cross the highest point of this kora, the 5,630-meter-high [Dolma La Pass]. At Dolma La Pass countless prayer flags flutter in the wind, conveying people's good wishes. After passing Dolma La Pass, you will come to a beautiful alpine lake — [Tuoji Co]. In Tibetan, Tuoji Co means "Lake of Compassion"; Hindus believe it is the place where Parvati, the wife of Shiva, bathed. Afterwards, you will continue to [Zutrul Phuk Monastery], where the legendary Milarepa Cave is located. After leaving Zutrul Phuk Monastery, you will continue onward, crossing grasslands and canyons before returning to the finishing point, Tarchen.

Tarchen-Zanda Earth Forest-Guge Kingdom-Zanda
Today you will depart from Tarchen and first head to the Zanda Earth Forest. The Zanda Earth Forest was formed over tens of millions of years of geological changes from an ancient large lake basin and riverbed. Within an area of nearly several hundred square kilometers, the earth forest is filled with jagged "trees" of varying shapes, and there are also cave sites of early humans here. After visiting the Zanda Earth Forest, you will go to visit the mysterious Guge Kingdom. The Guge Kingdom Ruins are an ancient plateau city. The entire site comprises over 300 houses and caves, 3 stupas (over 10 meters high), 4 temples, 2 halls, and 2 underground tunnels, divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, which were respectively the royal palace, temples, and residences. An outer wall was built around the perimeter, with blockhouses at the four corners. The Guge Kingdom once had a splendid civilization lasting seven hundred years, and its disappearance remains a mystery to this day.

Zanda-Tholing Monastery-Donggar Piyang Ruins-Shiquanhe
After breakfast, you will first visit Tholing Monastery, with a history of over 900 years. The monastery blends Indian Kashmiri, Ladakhi, and Nepali styles in both architecture and Buddhist statues, making it a comprehensive representation of architectural and statue styles from various regions. The Indian monk Atisha once lectured and wrote here, spreading the Dharma. Since then, many great masters have left their footprints here. Afterwards, you will continue onward to visit the Donggar-Piyang ruins. The Donggar-Piyang ruins are the largest ancient Buddhist cave site discovered in China to date. The murals at Donggar-Piyang use local mineral pigments, and despite years of windblown sand and the passage of time on the plateau, they still retain vivid colors—it is hard to imagine these are products of an era so distant from us. After the visit, you will head to Shiquanhe to check into a hotel and rest.

Shiquanhe-Rutog Rock Paintings-Banggong Lake-Jieshan Daban-Sanshili Yingfang
After breakfast, you will depart from Shiquanhe, first crossing the Lameila Pass at an elevation of 4,875 meters, then arriving at Risong Township, where you can see the exquisite [Ritu Rock Paintings]. The Ritu Mountain murals are in the Ritu Cave (cave name Dingqiong Lhakhang), depicting a grand architectural complex, mainly palaces and palace cities. In the murals, mandalas (i.e., sky burial platforms) are predominant, divided into Buddhist and Bon, along with various Buddha and figure images, and other ghostly images. Less than 20 kilometers out of Ritu County, you will arrive at [Pangong Tso]. Pangong Tso is an international lake, mostly located in Ali's Ritu County, with a small part in the Kashmir region. A peculiar feature of Pangong Tso is that it is freshwater in the east and saltwater in the west. Within China, it is freshwater, with lush trees and flocks of birds; in the Kashmir region, it is saltwater, where fish do not grow. Additionally, Pangong Tso is the highest bird island in the world, with about 20 species of birds, numbering up to tens of thousands. Then you will continue, crossing the [Jieshan Daban] at an elevation of 5,248 meters. Jieshan Daban is the highest point of the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway and the highest section of highway in the world. The boundary between Xinjiang and Tibet is defined by this, and this high mountain separates two ethnic groups: to the north are the Uyghurs who believe in Islam, and to the south are the Tibetans who believe in Buddhism. Crossing here, you enter Xinjiang. Afterwards, you will go to Sanshiliyingfang to check in and rest.

Sanshili Yingfang-K2-Heikada Daban-Yecheng
In the morning, set off from Sanshiliyingfang, passing in turn Heikada Ban, Mazha Daban, and Kudi Daban — these three passes are the signature stretches of Route 219. [Heikada Ban] is 4,906 meters above sea level; Heika means a mountain even monkeys cannot climb, and the road is gravel with sharp turns and steep slopes. [Mazha Daban] is 4,969 meters above sea level; Mazha means the grave of the dead. The descent is nearly 40 kilometers; the high altitude and steep, sharp turns make altitude sickness likely, and many vehicles have lost their brakes here and plunged into the cliffs. Here you can also gaze at the world's second-highest peak, [K2], at 8,611 meters. [Kudi Daban] is 3,150 meters above sea level and is the most precipitous pass on Route 219, with an abrupt rise of 2,000 meters. Afterwards, you will arrive at [Yecheng], a small border town rich in ethnic minority customs.

Yecheng-Xiangfei Tomb-Id Kah Mosque-Kashgar
After breakfast, you will first visit the Fragrant Concubine Tomb. The Fragrant Concubine Tomb tells the legendary story of the Fragrant Concubine from birth to death, from Kashgar to Beijing, and from Princess Xiangxiang to being showered with countless favors, covering her hometown, former residence, and legacy. Here, you can gain an in-depth understanding of the Fragrant Concubine's love story and experience Kashgar's distinctive customs and folk culture up close. After visiting the Fragrant Concubine Tomb, you will go to visit the Id Kah Mosque. The Id Kah Mosque was first built in 1442 and has a history of over 500 years. It is a symbol of the ancient city of Kashgar and a famous Islamic mosque in the Xinjiang region, with many magnificent buildings rich in Islamic features. In front of the mosque is the Id Kah Square named after it. Usually, many people relax and play on the large square. Long-bearded grandfathers and Uyghur children sit together by the square basking in the sun, very leisurely, and the scene is very peaceful.

Kashgar-Qicai Mountain-Aksu-Kuqa Grand Canyon-Taklamakan Desert-Kuqa
After breakfast, you will depart from Kashgar Old Town and first visit the Seven-Color Mountain. The Seven-Color Mountain is truly a mountain range of seven colors, where nature has infused brilliant hues into the rock layers, canyons, and peaks. People say this is where the rainbow lands. Also known as the Magical Grand Canyon, strange sounds occasionally emanate from the deep valleys, adding to its mysterious allure. After visiting the Seven-Color Mountain, you will continue onward, passing through Aksu, and arrive at Kuqa Grand Canyon. The Kuqa Grand Canyon is known as one of China's ten most beautiful canyons. Located in A'ai Township, Kuqa County, at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, it is composed of massive red-brown rock formations. The Kuqa Grand Canyon is full of magical colors, with countless "natural sculptures" inside—all masterpieces carved by the meltwater from Tianshan's ice and snow. After visiting the Kuqa Grand Canyon, you will pass through China's largest desert, the Taklamakan Desert. After enjoying the magnificent desert scenery, you will head to Kuqa to check into a hotel and rest.

Kuqa-Southern Section of Duku Highway (Big and Small Dragon Pools + 9 Bends and 18 Turns + Bayanbulak + Sky Grassland)-Nalati
After breakfast, you will head to the southern section of the Duku Highway for sightseeing. First, visit [Big and Small Dragon Pools]. The Big Dragon Pool is formed by melted snow from the Tianshan Mountains, with a wide expanse and clear bottom. Legend has it that the Queen Mother of the West once bathed here, and now it is a popular summer resort. Not far away, there is another lake called the Small Dragon Pool, like a crystal-clear gem, echoing the Big Dragon Pool from afar. Then you will come to the Bayanbulak Grassland to visit the [Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns]. On the Bayanbulak Grassland, there are 13 springs of various sizes, 7 lakes, and 20 rivers. The Kaidu River winding through the grassland resembles the shape of 'Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns', so many people also call the Kaidu River 'Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns'. Additionally, the Kaidu River is the Tongtian River in 'Journey to the West'. Then you will continue to explore the Bayanbulak Grassland. [Bayanbulak Grassland] is at an elevation of about 2,500 meters, surrounded by snow mountains, with flat terrain and abundant water and grass, a natural scenic area integrating mountains, basins, and grasslands. Finally, you will go to Nalati to check into a hotel and rest.

Nalati-Northern Section of Duku Highway (Tangbula Hundred-Mile Gallery + Qiaoerma + Dushanzi (Kuitun))-Urumqi
After breakfast, you will head to the northern section of the Duku Highway. First, visit the [Tangbula Hundred-Li Gallery]. The Tangbula Hundred-Li Gallery stretches over a hundred li, composed of four distinctive landscapes — the Tianshan Mountains, grasslands, the Kashi River, and hot springs — forming three-dimensional scrolls. Within the gallery there are 113 valleys, each with scenery, all connected and each different, and it is hailed as a "hundred-li scroll, a natural gallery." Then you will visit [Qiao'erma]. The Qiao'erma scenic area is beautiful, with glaciers of the Yilianhabierga and Aburele Mountains — plateau glaciers capping the summits and valley glaciers filling the valleys — as well as cirques, moraines, ice ridges, ice mounds, ice tongues, ice peaks, ice lakes, ice valleys, and ice pearls. On the icy rocks, snow lotuses bloom in profusion, making them appear even more noble and pure. Afterwards, you will visit [Dushanzi]. The place name Dushanzi comes from Dushan within its territory. Dushan runs east-west in a straight line and is named for standing alone in the Gobi, unconnected to other mountain bodies. In Uyghur and Kazakh, Dushanzi is called "Mayitake" and "Mayitao," meaning "Oil Mountain," and it is also an oil-producing place. Finally, you will arrive at Urumqi, the end point of this itinerary.
