The rest of the time is yours to arrange freely. Jilin City is located on the banks of the Songhua River in central Jilin Province and is a popular winter tourist destination in Northeast China. It is famous for "rime ice"—because the river water is relatively warm, moisture condenses on tree branches on cold mornings, forming a crystal-clear ice wonder that is truly magical, earning it the reputation of "China's Rime Ice Town." From December to February each year, you can admire this scenery at places like Rime Island, and also enjoy abundant ice and snow activities such as skiing. Early this morning, you will travel by car to [Rime Island] in Wula Street Manchu Town, Longtan District, Jilin City. This is a river island in the Songhua River and one of the best places to view Jilin's spectacular winter rime. Because the upstream hydropower station discharges relatively warm water, the river surface does not easily freeze in winter; water vapor rises and, upon meeting the cold, condenses into sparkling frost crystals on the branches, forming an endless stretch of rime scenery. When the rime is at its fullest, the entire island looks like a dreamlike ice and snow fairyland: trees are clothed in silver and jade, a thin mist shrouds the river, and when the morning light falls, everything sparkles—as if you have stepped into a "winter fairy-tale world." Best Time to View the Rime Peak season: Late December to late February of the following year Best viewing period: 7:00–10:00 in the morning (at this time the rime is intact and the sunlight is soft; after 10:30 it may gradually fall off) Travel tips: Rime is a natural phenomenon that requires a combination of low temperatures, relatively high humidity, and no wind or only a light breeze. Although Jilin is the best place to see it, rime is not visible every day. It is recommended to check the local rime forecast before your trip and allow flexible time. In the afternoon, you will travel by car to Erdaobaihe Town, the gateway to Changbai Mountain (about 4 hours, subject to road and weather conditions). After arriving, check in at your hotel. You can arrange the evening freely and recharge for the journey ahead.

Today, you will begin your day's journey at 【Changbai Mountain】, known as the "First Mountain of the Guandong Region." This sacred mountain of Northeast China is renowned for its magnificent peaks, lakes, waterfalls, and snow scenery. It has been praised as "a thousand years of snow and ten thousand years of pines, the finest peak in the mortal world," has been included multiple times in the Guinness World Records, and holds honors such as "One of China's Top Ten Famous Mountains" and "One of China's Five Most Beautiful Lakes." First, you will take a bus to the iconic attraction of Changbai Mountain — Tianchi (Heaven Lake). At an elevation of about 2,189 meters, it is the deepest and largest volcanic crater lake in China and the highest in the world. It is also the source of three rivers — the Songhua, Yalu, and Tumen — and a boundary lake between China and North Korea. Its crystal-clear blue waters resemble a sparkling sapphire, surrounded by steep crater walls and sixteen peaks, creating a spectacular sight. Tianchi is often shrouded in mist and clouds, with its summit covered in ice and snow, resembling a fairyland and exuding great charm. The legend of the "Tianchi Monster" adds a touch of mystery to it. After the tour, you will continue to visit Changbai Waterfall, known as "the volcanic lake waterfall with the greatest drop in the world." The waterfall plunges 68 meters, merging with the cliffs and green mountains in a magnificent display. You can overlook the spectacular waterfall from the viewing platform and marvel at nature's craftsmanship. Next, you may continue to admire the picturesque Small Tianchi, a small lake surrounded by beautiful Erman's birch forests. Its clear, emerald waters are like a mirror, reflecting the surrounding trees, blue sky, and white clouds — mountains and water interconnected, water and sky blending into one, creating a particularly enchanting scene. Afterward, you will visit Lvyuantan (Green Abyss Pool), known as the "Little Jiuzhaigou of Northeast China." Its waters are deep and emerald green, with a waterfall cascading down from a cliff with a maximum drop of 26 meters. The water splashes off boulders before flowing into the deep pool. Whenever mist rises, the pool is shrouded in vapor, blending seamlessly with the alpine birches and ancient boulders — a breathtaking sight resembling a fairyland on earth. In the early morning, you will be taken to the Changbai Mountain Magic World Scenic Area, known as a "photographer's paradise," to experience a unique and exciting rime drifting tour and admire the magnificent winter wonders of rime and tree frost. The water source of Magic World comes from the hot spring water gushing out of Changbai Mountain's Tianchi. It never freezes all year round. When the winter temperature drops to minus 20°C, mist rises, and the trees are covered with rime, forming a series of magnificent and beautiful winter scenes, as if entering a magical world. Drifting down along the river channel, you can take in this breathtaking scenery and capture the most beautiful natural wonders. After experiencing the dreamlike rime drifting, you will travel about 150 km by car to Yanji (about 2 hours by car; winter road conditions may affect travel time). This vibrant border city is the core gathering place of Chinese Korean culture, full of border charm and ethnic flavor. After arrival, your first stop will be the Chinese Korean Folk Park. The park contains more than 40 traditional buildings, vividly displaying the life scenes and cultural customs of the Korean ethnic group. You can stroll through the courtyards, visit exhibitions, and deeply experience the unique charm and culture of this ethnic minority. This morning, depart from Yanji and drive about 3.5 hours (about 250 kilometers) to [Jingpo Lake], known as the "West Lake of the North," to admire the breathtaking winter wonder—the ice waterfall. Jingpo Lake is a famous volcanic lake and the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world, a natural wonder formed when lava from a volcanic eruption ten thousand years ago blocked the course of the Mudan River. Here, you can immersively enjoy the magnificent winter beauty of the lake and mountains. You will also admire the Diaoshuilou Waterfall at the northern end of Jingpo Lake, known as "the first waterfall of northern China." It is one of the eight great scenic spots of Jingpo Lake, one of China's three major waterfalls, and one of the world's largest basalt waterfalls. The waterfall is about 70 meters wide, reaching over 300 meters in width during the high-water period, with a drop of more than 20 meters. In summer, you can admire the magnificent sight of water plunging down with tremendous momentum; in winter, the waterfall's flow freezes into ice, forming a breathtaking ice waterfall wonder. After the tour, drive about 2.5 hours (about 160 kilometers) to [China Snow Town], known as "the most beautiful winter tourist destination," to enjoy China's most beautiful snow scenery. The snow season lasts up to 7 months, and the snow can be about 2 meters deep at its thickest. If you are a photography enthusiast, you can head to Yangcao Mountain early this morning to capture the most beautiful sunrise over Snow Town. As the first ray of morning light parts the dark sky and drapes the white snow in orange and gold, you will be enchanted by the most beautiful sky. Yangcao Mountain is the highest peak in China Snow Town, at about 1,235 meters above sea level. It is not only an excellent place to watch the sunrise and sunset, but also the best spot to photograph the magnificent, vast northern snow scenery.
